  • I see it as a bit more complicated than that. Simply put...There is usually more than one side to an issue.
Yes, there are different sides to the issue, and what is ours? We want oil so we kiss up to brutal regimes, invade Arab countries, overthrow governments we don't like without regard to what Arabs want, and prop up the state of Israel imposed upon Arabs by the west.

What's their side? Oh yeah, they don't want us kissing up to brutal regimes, invading Arab countries, overthrowing governments without regard to what Arabs want, and propping up Israel.

Might as well "justify" rape by accusing the victim of hating the rapist...

    • That's the point.
Hardly, they fumed about it for years. Our Prime Minister even got invited to the Oxford debating society to argue the case against nuclear weapons against some Tory. Thrashed him too.

Yeah, right. But the circle of bases around Russia only gets tighter. If new bases are ever created in Ukraine or Georgia, a nuke of despair should be detonated somewhere in the world.
Freedom is just unawareness of being manipulated.

Maybe there's a reason Russia's neighbors want US bases? That idea never crossed your mind?

            • Of course there are reasons. Russia should just produce even stronger reasons for them not to want it.

How many wars did we start in the past 50 years? How many did you?

Like time travelling back and rewriting its history?

                  • If time travel were possible, we would use it to a much greater purpose than that.

You tell us how many we started.
No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

The point is that telling the US to get stuffed is a low risk enterprise, contra the loons who think that the US can tell everyone else what to do at the point of an aircraft carrier.

Must be a pill to swallow; American bases "circling" Russia instead of soviet bases circling Europe.

                              • Kerry is going to do a major policy address against this realignment.

The realignment seems to make good sense and was well vetted. This seems like a loser issue for Kerry.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891
