Not so much stole but carried on.

IBM worked with PortalPlayer first, IBM designed a mini-harddrive based player first, and then IBM's new management canned the project, and a year later the iPod comes out.

so in a year apple created ipod, it's design, it's interface, the whole itunes business model, the actual itunes software, etc etc....

Um. What exactly did Apple design with the iPod?

Small harddrive? IBM/Hitachi.
Circuitry and DSP? PortalPlayer.
Casing and style? Apple.

It's certainly possible to design a case/style around other people's technology in a year. Hell, even the Firmware from it was based on PortalPlayer software.

As for the iTunes thing...iTunes existed well before the iPod, and the iTMS didn't launch at the same time as the iPod.

Nah, if anyone could successfully launch a device with mediocre sound quality and crap battery life at a ridiculous price, it's Apple. No one else could get away with it.
