And NOOOOOOOO, we should NEVER DEAL WITH TERRORISTS - the good ol' US of A would never stoop to that, oh, um, Col. North, the messenger from the Ayatollah is here to see you, sir.

I guess all the good Amurkins who are condemning the spineless Flips should have similarly harsh opinions for the Reagan administration and Ollie North.

Equality as in political equality. The Philippines didn't have autonomy for decades under U.S. rule. And as for racial equality, we have plenty of quotes from U.S. imperialists about how they were "civilizing the savages" to know what a lot of people felt about it. Whether or not that was official policy I don't know, but it's certain that Fillipinos encountered racism from the occupiers.

Secondly, I said AFTER the revolt.
I know you did, I was solely addressing the charicature of the revolution as a "revolt," which doesn't do it justice. It was a widespread, fullblown war in which perhaps as many as 500,000 Fillipino civilians died.

Filipinos were not anti-American in that period of time in any way.
The period of the revolution/revolt? Or the period of colonial rule post-revolt?

It is only considered 'Revolution' when the revolting win. We don't call the period between 1861-65 as the Southern Revolution.
Do a search for "Philippine Revolution." It is considered such. The revolution did involve a "win," which was the overthrow of the Spanish. The hostilities encountered by the Americans were a continuation of this war--it was the same conflict continued against American invasion.

The CIA should abduct two of their citizens. That'd win the day

The guy has a wife and EIGHT kids, Arroyo is a very nice WOMAN...

So the 50 troops are getting pulled. I'm happy for the wife & kids, a tad bothered by the lack of resolve. In the end though it's the US that matters in this fight and Arroyo's decision has momemtarily become one of those molehills with asperations. The decision is only truly meaningful to those without a military or political perspective, that family.

More worrysome is what this might mean to the over 1 million Philippine OFW's.

Breaking news: the Filipinos have begun pulling out.

**** 'em. This will probably mean more kidnapped Americans and coalition partners.
