I'm constantly amazed--although I shouldn't be--at some people's belief that international relations should be based on a system of "You owe us, man!" As if the U.S. ever adhered to such a system itself. We certainly didn't treat the Spanish that way.

The Philippine colony wasn't treated as an equal, there was a tremendous amount of racism
Um... it was perhaps the only colony where natives were given supervisory roles over 'whites'. When you have native people in charge of Engineering, ordering white Americans what to do, I'd say that is pretty equal. That isn't even mentioning that the Governors of the Phillipines (including William Howard Taft) asked local Filipino elites about policy before enacting something.
Secondly, I said AFTER the revolt. The Aguinaldo revolt was your cookie cutter guerilla war, where atrocities were done on both sides. Afterwards Americans built up the country and modernized it, actually taking into account what the people who lived there wanted. Filipinos were not anti-American in that period of time in any way. Sure, there were some groups who wanted independance, but they went through it non-violently and through appeals to the Governor and Congress.
Oh, and Ted is right about the US leaving the Phillipines. It was always an intention to leave the Phillipines after the time and effort was put in to make them self-solvent. The annexation of the Phillipines was HIGHLY contested at the time and the only reason it passed was because of the argument that if we turn them independant, Spain or Britain will just take them over again. At that point it was agreed that the Phillipines should have their independance at the first time when it was feasible to do so.
the "revolt" was a full-scale revolution
It is only considered 'Revolution' when the revolting win. We don't call the period between 1861-65 as the Southern Revolution.“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

Dumbass.
Ask the average Filipinos opinion on Americans and see what they say. Since you Canadians are bootstrapping us, you get the same benefits.
They say they still love us

BTW Just a bit of fact here but they were withdrawing their forces at the end of the month any way. I believe they have a grand total of 45 soldiers in theater and most of them are medical and/or support personnel who never left base and who never got near any fighting.Try http://wordforge.net/index.php for discussion and debate.

BTW They did offer us additional leases for military bases. They just demanded way something like 10 times what we intially offered so rather then pay we packed up. I've also heard that several members of the Phillipines Congress would love to have the bases back to help their districts economies.Try http://wordforge.net/index.php for discussion and debate.

I fear we may discover that he has already been killed.
After all, he was just 'random foreigner' maybe they never seriously expected the demands to be listened to."Wait a minute..this isn''t FAUX dive, it's just a DIVE!"

I remember reading re: the conquest of the Phillipines that some American poltician had said the point of the conquest was to Christianize the Filipinos who had been Roman Catholics for 300 years.
Anyway,to the Phillipines for getting out of the bull**** war.

Uh, that would be the president, Agathon, I'm pretty sure. While we're discussing the old Phillipines issue, I've always wondered why we didn't do the same with them as we did with Cuba- you have your own nominally independent government that signs an alliance with the US, gives up their own foreign policy, and allows us to build a few military bases. Vaguely British Commonwealthy-style.All syllogisms have three parts.
Therefore this is not a syllogism.

b) You don't negotiate with terrorists. If somebody takes a Canadian hostage I hope the Canadian government has the good sense to do everything to get him back safely except for acceding to the demands of his kidnapers
I cant claim to know every incident (not by a long shot) but the ones I know about where Canadians were held under false pretences, the Canadian govt has shown all the fortitude of a bowl of rice pudding (and that was back when a few canadian politicians actually had some backbone. We need seperate human-only games for MP/PBEM that dont include the over-simplifications required to have a good AI

a) As much as I disagreed with the Iraq war, those who supported it have a moral obligation to stick it out now. They invaded the country, destroyed all existing legal, military and political structure and thus must stay until they've gotten Iraq back on its feet

to the Philippines
Bushie needed a show of "support" so if the Phils did any bending over and spreading wide, it was for Bush and making a token "contribution" to a foreign war they had no reason to give a **** about, let alone get involved in.
And NOOOOOOOO, we should NEVER DEAL WITH TERRORISTS - the good ol' US of A would never stoop to that, oh, um, Col. North, the messenger from the Ayatollah is here to see you, sir.
I guess all the good Amurkins who are condemning the spineless Flips should have similarly harsh opinions for the Reagan administration and Ollie North. When all else fails, blame brown people. | Hire a teen, while they still know it all. | Trump-Palin 2016. "You're fired." "I quit."
