The enemy is only "beaten" in a meaningful sense when he surrenders and organized resistance stops. That wasn't the case in August, 1945.
Another theory is the US was afraid that the USSR would start invading Japan, especially after the Soviets completely stomped the IJA in Manchuria like they were dried twigs.

Lets steer this Discusion towards Defining what Patriotism means as we have already discussed Terrorism a lot.
Patriotism would most easily be defined as "Loving your Country" but what adsactly do we mean by "country"
Do we mean the People in the Country? The Physical location? The system of Goverment? The Constitution or Belief system? The Current goverment and its policy?
We need to realize that the US is a very unique. It have a short history but the longest running Constitution in history. It has a Huge Ethnic and Religious diversity but is predominantly white and Christian. How we define Patriotism is shaped by these factors.
In other places their are Nations (as in a destinct culture, ethnicity and language) without states such as the Kurdish areas of Turkey, Iraq and Iran. Kurdish Patriots dont love the their states instead they love "Kurdishness". A Canadian on the other hand would be hard pressed to define a unique "Canadian" ethicity and culture though the state is quite easy to find. A Frenchman has both a well defined state and a nation to wrap up in Patriotism but every person may not atatch the same meaning to Patriotism.
P.S. I am also seeing that strange Character please explain it, is the second half of it the Sign for Euros?
Companions the creator seeks, not corpses, not herds and believers. Fellow creators, the creator seeks - those who write new values on new tablets. Companions the creator seeks, and fellow harvesters; for everything about him is ripe for the harvest. - Thus spoke Zarathustra, Fredrick Nietzsche
Let's all point and laugh at the Mac using philosopher.
Terrorism is an acceptable tactic in wars. However, the wars have to be just, i.e. waged in self-defense or for liberation, and likely to result in a better world than what would have been otherwise -- basically WW II, and not many others.
Would anybody agree with the idea that basically all wars are terrorist acts, or at least, all successful wars? I mean, an army is a big terrorizing bunch of young hormonally driven men, given guns and historically carte blanche to rape, pillage, and murder. A good army is one that is more terrible than its opponent, one that is better at raping, pillaging, and murdering.
Maybe the reason so many quite thoughtful people oppose war is because it's a race to hit the absolute bottom of the human condition and is a measurement of our capacity for evil rather than the greatness of nations. This is excluding just wars of course -- I'm not a mindless pacifist. I just think war is by its very nature an awful and inhuman concept, just as much of a wrongful thick ethical concept as terrorism.
