You mean, like after voting the USUK resolution at the UN, or like after making very lovelove-ish speeches at the D-Day celebrations.

I'm glad we are taking a break for such intense rapprochement, it was becoming indecent

Does anyone think the Bush camp would have the nerve to put up an ad featuring Kerry calling the Reagan presidency a period of moral darkness?

I've learned not to bet against Bush's "nerve" or audacity. We're talking about the man whose campaign said John McCain fathered an illegitimate child.
To us, it is the BEAST.

I read a few articles which said Bush shouldn't try to embrace the Reagan legacy. First thing is that Reagan was actually a great public speaker and the comparison would hurt Bush. Secondly, Reagan was ACTUALLY a uniter. He was very friendly with the Democrats across the aisle, to the point of getting together with Tip O'Neil (the Democrat Speaker of the House) to tell jokes. Bush shares no such friendships among the Democrats.

The Reagan Dems were traitors to their party. They fell for Reagans smooth talking.

Not so. The Democratic Party left their base to chase after innumerable special interest groups. That's why Reagan switched to Rep.

Reagan wasn't just smooth talk, he lived up to his words.

                      Uh, no.

The Reagan Dems were People who were socially conservative but economically liberal. Dutch won them by fanning the flames of the cuture war and blinding them to his economic shenanigans.

I work with libertarians plenty, there doesn't seem to be a huge amount of difference between the two.

Libertarians I know are only good for debating issues in long rant format online and denouncing fellow libertarians for not being "pure" enough.

I talk a lot of smack for someone who used to work in the Party headquarters.

Bingo! There was a big feeling among the Reagan Democrats that the Dems had abandoned them. They voted for Reagan in droves. There is a similar crisis going on with Southern Dems who feel the party is leaving them.
