Rick Mercer was saying he wanted a minority government because he's never seen one in his life. It would be kind of like seeing a rhinoceros, he said.

I don't think the country has ever seen one like this. No way in hell will the Conservatives support the Liberals for any significant period of time beyond five seconds or a policy convention after this election.

The question is, is Martin enough of a slut to accept Bloc support? I hope not. We really don't need to see the Liberals destroyed after just having got the Conservatives back.

One of the pundits on the CBC suggested the Liberals might try giving Cadman the nod as speaker. Talk about rubbing salt in the wound...

Why? The scuttlebutt was the Conservatives would ask a Liberal to do the same if they found themselves in a similar position.

Because the Conservatives turfed him even though he was a popular MP, because he won his election in a walk, and because appointing him speaker would secure a Liberal-NDP majority.

I'd be annoyed about that, if I were part of the Conservative machine.

Someone else sold more memberships. If anything it proves the point that the party centrals and the leaders should be side lined, and Elections Canada should oversee nominations.

And it still doesn't change the fact that a member of the non governing party would be compelled to take the Speakers chair, if only to get out of the way and let the plurality get on with it.

Withholding a speaker to force the 'government' into non confidence would not be cricket. Would it?

I voted Liberal too. And what it says is that while I am pissed off at the corruption and the other issues, the Conservatives better sit down, have a party policy convention and drift solidly back to the old PC platform before they're seen as a viable alternative.
