  • "It seems that they were having some trouble with speeders in the Soviet
Union, even though they don't have automobiles. So, an order was issued
that everyone, no matter who it was, caught speeding got a ticket. And one
day, General Secretary Gorbachev was coming out of his country home. He's
late getting to the Kremlin. So, he told his driver to get in the backseat
and he'd drive. And down the road he went, past two motorcycle policemen.
One of them took out after him. In just a few minutes, he was back with his
buddy. And the buddy said, "Well, did you give him a ticket?" And he said,
"No." He said, "You didn't? Why not? We're supposed to give everyone a
ticket." He said, "No, he was too important." "But", he said, "who was
it?" "Well," he said, "I couldn't recognize him. But his driver was
    Gorbachev.""
No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

The attitude of government in regard to economics can be summarized as followes: If it moves: tax it. If it keeps on moving: regulate it. If it stops moving: subsidize it

People say Politics is the second oldest profession. I've found out it appears to be very much like the oldest profession

In English the most terryfying words are: "I'm from the government and I'm here to help"

Politics is like showbusiness: first you have a great overture, then you just float around and you end with a great punch-line

It's true: nobody has ever died from working hard. But why would I take the risk?
      :evil grin:

The waste produced by a nuclear power plant is easily stored in the empty space under a desk

I'm not worried about our budget-deficit: it's big enough to take care of itself
      And this line:

"A recession is when your neighbor loses his job, a depression is when you lose your job,and a recovery is when jimmy carter loses his job".

And Reagan had one of the best debate come backs ever:

"I will not make age an issue in this campaign. I will not exploit for political gain my opponent's youth and inexperience."
'There is a greater darkness than the one we fight. It is the darkness of the soul that has lost its way. The war we fight is not against powers and principalities, it is against chaos and despair. Greater than the death of flesh is the death of hope, the death of dreams. Against this peril we can never surrender. The future is all around us, waiting, in moments of transition, to be born in moments of revelation. No one knows the shape of that future or where it will take us. We know only that it is always born in pain.'"
      G'Kar - from Babylon 5 episode "Z'ha'dum"

Why would terrorists use nuclear weapons? The point of terrorism is to terrify into doing your thing -- the way 9/11 terrified Bush into helping Osama by deposing Iraq's secular government and moving out forces blasphemously stationed in the holy Saudi Arabia -- and not to wipe out.

Nuclear weapons are useless as far as terrorists are concerned. They may be delusional, but they are still rational.

Uhm, Stalin's hellhole won the war. Look at the post-war map if you don't believe me. All that FDR accomplished was a small feint in western europe.

I will also remember Reagan for being one of the many individuals who was in a position of power and responsibility to take effective action against AIDS when people theorized as early as 1981 or 1982 that AIDS was a sexually transmitted disease. Yet he did too little too late, not because no one knew anything about this disease, but because people did know what this disease was, and he did not care.

I will also remember Reagan for widening the gap of wealth between the American upper class and working class Americans.

I will also remember Reagan for being finiancially irresponsible by increasing spending in national defense programs while cutting spending for other, important domestic areas such as health, education, welfare, and so on.

I will also remember Reagan for being involved in the Iranian Contra scandal.
you're wrong on all those accounts.

It is based off the humor that whatever the government lays its hands on ends up in worse condition.
I find it offensive that somebody (like Reagan) who has such contempt for government became the leader of it. I'm disappointed that conservatives hate the product of Democracy. You would figure people with such nationalistic zeal would have more faith in their government. Personally, I feel government can be an enormously important tool to better people's lives. It's a shame conservatives have such contempt for something with the potential to do so much good.

The trick isn't to break some eggs to make an omelette, it's convincing the eggs to break themselves in order to aspire to omelettehood.

actually, that was intended to be more of a revelation of my opinions about government than an actual troll...

                        You aren't even trying.

                        Ronald Reagan:

"It is not my intention to do away with government. It is rather to make it work -- work with us, not over us; stand by our side, not ride on our back. Government can and must provide opportunity, not smother it; foster productivity, not stifle it."

Yes, a small feint that drew away German manpower from the Eastern Front, thus allowing the Soviets to take the offensive in the first place.

If I were trying to troll, I would've said, "conservatives hate America because they hate government" or something to that effect.
