What's up with this competition? Portugese have an overhwelming advantage, and only win 1-0, barely getting the second goal?
Pressure. Try performing in front of a crowd of a few hundred strangers. Then change that to a few hundred of your friends. It makes it harder. The expectation of winning means stress, pressure, and some can't handle it that well. Looks like Ronaldo isn't one of them. I've also been consistantly impressed with Deco. He's done a lot of nice stuff, all the way through, especially when Figo is well marked.

And why can't they put Figo ont he right and Ronaldo on the left? They were talking of which one would start against Spain, but they played different sides tonight. Those two, Deco and Rui Costa is quite a midfield

Well I'm top on first instincts.

Greece are the only team to have given me nil points. So I figure they deserve my respect with an improved scoreline prediction.

          • Deco was good. He may not show creativity to match Figo's, but he's hrd to stop when he's with the ball. And, Manchester was definitely right to buy Ronaldo from Porto immediately after he kicked MU's ass. He has great speed, and bypasses defenders easily. Portugal would have had it easier if he was out 5-10 minutes earlier. I didn't like that guy that Rui Costa replaced... forgot his name again... IMO, they would do better with Ronaldo there, and Figo on the other side. Rui Costa can then appear at some point to substitue someone as the need may be....

I'm now actually wishing that Greece beats Russia and Portugal beats Spain, which will result in Portugal and Spain getting out of the group. Portugal really appeals to me this time around, and I'll be very happy if they win the cup!

I thought he was bought froim Sporting Lisbon, or was that before Porto?

That would cause Greece and Portugal to go through. Greece playing England I'd go for Portugal playing France at this stage could be quite a match

I watched the game when he owned MU and they bought him. I'm not 100% positive, but I am rather convinced it was Porto.

That would cause Greece and Portugal to go through.

Freudian slip. I wrote Spain and Portugal because those are the two teams I want to see going . But I indeed think that Greece & Portugal are the more likely combination now...

I'll bet you money that Greece beats Russia, which makes it certain that Greece get through. Then, the Portugese have to win, and if Scalari makes the right starting line-up (Deco & Ronaldo), I believe they have better chances than Spain.

                        • About the Russian-Portuguese game.

Was it not very unfair to give the Russian goalkeeper a red card? He did not mean to touch the ball with his hand. It was an accident.

Also why are players only given yellow cards if they simulate a foul inside the penalty box? There was one excrutiating scene where one longhaired portugeuse, I forget his name, was downed and a foul called. The Russian player then very softly plays the ball to him, and it hits him ever so gently on his chest as he gets up.

Now this 'player' begins to roll around the grass 7 times as if in agonizing pain. Pathetic. he should have been given a yellow card for that scene.

                          • It was an unfair red card.
The goalkeeper hardly touched the ball, if he touched it at all. He did his very best to not touch the ball.
And even *if* he touched the ball, it didn't alter anything to the direction the ball moved to, neither did it stop the bal.

I think it was a very good goal-keeper action.
It really really was unfair to give him the red card.

From what country did the referee come?
I'll ban whatever product that comes from that country
