Yet in Europe you're never more than 10 miles from farming land. America, with those vast expanses of land, is rather different.

What do you think of, when you think of farmers?

I like farmers. I have lots of farmers in my family. They're all decent, well educated and hospital people. A little xenophobic perhaps, but who isn't?
This should be a multiple poll btw, I'd vote "Hardworking and prosperous" AND "Protectionist SOBs".CSPA

I believe we have shown that the "farmer (perception) gap" is indeed very real.
The next logical question is, "why?"

just a little more info, if anyone cares.
While I'm not much removed from farming, I know nothing about it.
My mother's family was into farming. They had many acres of land in Maryland. They still do. All my aunts and uncles still have the land, but they don't use it for farming. Or if they do, they have other people work the land.
But I grew up in the city, and in the desert. Nothing grows out here unless you give it lots of water. I know nothing about farming.
Like I said, most farming in the U.S. is done by legal and illegal immigrants. You don't see many "farmers" in the U.S. anymore. Corporations run everything.

For the record, my mother grew up on a farm, and I lived next to one as a kid. Several childhood friends were farmer's sons. So I believe I've got about as much insight in modern Western agriculture as you can expect from someone not directly involved in it.Why can't you be a non-conformist just like everybody else?
