      The reason British comedy is better is because the settings are infinitely more bleak and dark. As opposed to American comedies, which mostly seem to be set in really nice apartments or houses.


      How many American comedies have you seen? All in the Family, Married with Children, Sanford & Son, etc., were not set in 'nice' homes at all (if anything they were lower middle class homes).

            Yes, but it would probably be pretty different. I couldn't imagine the same situations would apply in Britain (the show mostly 'worked' because of the history of racial relations in the US)

              That's why it worked world wide, but I get your point.

                              Slightly obliquely, never mind Amsterdam, here's a challenge: list American/European beaches/holiday
                              locations where topless bathing is permitted. Do you really have to go to Europe to see tits on a beach?
