Canadians and their Napoleon complex... sad, really.

I'm pretty sure that it's NOT worthy of the Palme d'or, especially considering that his films have gradually been declining in quality ever since the fantastic "Roger & Me".

I love the comment from Danish Lars von Trier after winning last year's Palme d'or for "Dogville" (starring Nicole Kidman, recorded in Sweden).

Q: How can you make a critical film about America when you haven't even been there yourself?
A: The makers of "Casablanca" never went to Africa, did they?

Then again, it wasn't a critical film of Africa, so the point is moot.

But is was about Africa, so you would expect the makers to know something about Africa

              Jam--

I heard a LA Times critic on the radio, who was at Cannes. According to him, it is Moore's best film to date simply from an artistic standpoint, whatever one thinks of his politics.

Also of note, a plurality of the Cannes jury are American.

It wasn't about Africa at all. It was about World War 2 on the surface and the core of the movie is about love and what we must do for it - the sacrifices we must make. The film was SET in africa.

So, if I set a film on Mars in the year 2039 that means I have to visit Mars, 2039??? Ridiculous.

Well, his point is that you wouldn't have to, actually.

                      Exactly

von Trier's point was that most of his media feed is from America, so he knows more about America than any other country in the world, even more than those he actually visited himself.

So anyone know if there's some way I could see this movie?

Good show. French support of Bush criticism will definitely increase his reelection chances.
The jury was headed by Quentin Tarantino.

Personally, Michael Moore is somewhat revolting to me. He's too much of a stereotypical american.
