Your equating manhood to straighthood is the problem Agathon seems to have. Any indication that he might not be 100% straight (i.e. touching another guy) he considers a threat to his manhood. But a well-adjusted fellow, straight or gay, can touch men without it making them all ickish.

But seriously, for men with no sexual outlets, yelling and screaming and wrestling while watching a bunch of guys on TV fondle each other (hockey or football) is as close to orgasm as these guys get.
