He put it on the net as an example what not to do. That sounds like F material to me.

He put it out on the internet. Giving him a D sounds like sufficent payment for that.

The professor still needed the guy's permission to put it out though.

            Did he?

When you hand in the paper to the professor, is it still yours? I would assume the professor now has ownership, since it is for him, no?

I think, just for the record, that the professor only uses it in class, and the guy's roommate put it on the net.

                GePap,

Regardless the intention of the professor, the intention of the poster, in this case Solomwi, is the discussion. IMO and clarified via Solmowi the intention was not to post a paper for online grading purposes(a big yawn as who the hell cares) but moreover a humor piece. The opening post title was a big clue. Subsequent post from Solomwi are another big clue as to the intention of the OP. That being the paper has humor and that IMO it showed considerable gall (in a homourous vein) to poke fun at the assumedly pompous professor.

No intention to rate it terms of strength of argument, etc. were my take on the OP. Yes it has all the validity of an Onion article and so what. (That apparently was its intention and IMO the intention of the OP.)

By the by, where did I say it deserved any grade whatsoever, as I saw that as immaterial to the intention of the OP.

Now if your point is it has no humor value, again so what.

The intent of the OP and the eventual drift of the discussion are two very different things here in Poly. In fact, for most threads, the OP really becomes sadly irrelevant after a point.

Interesting are thesis intellectual property of the unviersity or the researcher?

Regardless the implication is it is the property of thestudent as in the first line there is a releasewhich he apparently signed.

                    • Again, this isn't a debate. He's not asking for contrasting viewpoints. A controlled argument, as it were.
It's not even a persuasive speech.

                      Let's define Speech vs. Debate.

A debate is an exchange of differing opinion. Period. That's all.

Whereas there are many different types of speeches.
A minister in the pulpit gives 1 of 2 types of what is essentially a speech. A sermon.
It will be either Informative and/or Persuasive.
It doesn't happen in the Methodist church usually, but someone shouting "Amen" or "Hal-lelu-jah, Brother", doesn't turn it into an exchange, or debate.
