Still, two different things.
A persuasive speech is when an individual attempts to persuade.
No one else particularly says anything.
A debate, whether between individuals or panels, is an exchange of differing viewpoints.
Unless one is talking to oneself, this requires more than one person.

Your arguements that thepaper is crap and that is deserves to fail in no way addresses the intention of the OP. Which was to say it was humorous. Your attempt to diss the paper on academic grounds belies IMO your attempt to discredit it on terms of viewpoint over 'substance'.
As I have said, it's an OK comedy piece, and he could have always sent it to be published in the campus paper, or whatever. BUt hand it in to a teacher-and you deserve to fail.
As for discrediting his view-as a piece of comedy, it does not even deserve to be discredited, anymore than a Onion piece needs to be discredited.If you don't like reality, change it! me
