No complete translation, but a summary:

A French Imam has publically declared that:
    - he favors lapidation of women and polygamy
    - beating your woman is good, but only in some circumstances, like if she cheated on you
    - you must not hit her on the face, but on the legs and belly. You must hit her strong enough so that she's afraid and never does it again
    - music is sin, as it deters from the Quran and favors debauchery
    - he wants to come back to the "true religion"
    - he is against the headscarf ban, because Muslim women are forced to wear the scarf
    - he wishes France to become an Islamist country.

Needless to say, people were baffled. The justice minister is considering action, and the communist mayor of this Imam's city has immediately begun the judicial process against the imam. He also asked that we ban the coming of imams from abroad, especially Algeria and Saudi Arabia.

Well, I don't think we should condemn Islam as a whole for the declarations of this random ass, just like we shouldn't condemn christianty as a whole for Fred Phelps.

However, it is very worrisome that people like him, who defend a medieval and untolerable lifestyle, can become imams in my country. I think it is necessary to monitor our imams somehow, and to monitor very strongly the imams from abroad. These are the seeds of terrible trouble, and I don't think we should be any lenient toward them.

Well, the only thing I can see him getting in trouble for would be "inciting violence" by telling people it's ok to beat their wives.

            Typical fundy wackyness.

Public incitation to violence or hatred is a punishable offense here.

I dont think their speech should be threatened, however the government should encourage Imams with an antithetical message to speak too.

                        "should" is incitement.

This made it to the news today, and Reuters dates it from today 10:41, so...

Edit: but indeed, the ideas of the imam are pretty old, that's for sure.

It's illegal here too. I never thought I would say this but to French law. Such statements should be illegal
