This is such bull****. There is no reason why someone who doesn't believe in evolution should not make a perfectly good doctor. I agree that a doctor should accept mutations of diseases etc, but evolution as the origin of species has no bearing on the practice of medicine (except fo some rather obscure applications). In fact, that lecturer's unwillingness to tolerate someone else's point of view is surely a bigger barrier to his competent medical practice (unless they went away and discussed her views before he made that statement).

You missed the part about her not accepting the scientific method.

Not at all. She may simply reject the claims of evolutionists, either not accepting their data, or not accepting their methodology. The problems come about when one makes scientific statements which are in contradiction with scientific method - not when one rejects them.

          HELLO!

The only source we have is what Boris wrote. IN what Boris wrote (our only source), he states that the priest explained to her the scientific mehtod and that that sailed over her head.

Now, maybe Boris is deeply biased and she did get it-but we two can not know, and our only source says otherwise.

Well, this debate might be interesting but the sad truth -as I see it- seems to be that no matter how peaceful the religion seems to be if you go by its learnings, nothing stops it from being an excuse for the most brutal of actions. It seems to hold true for most -if not all- religions. There's militant hindu nationalists, the violent group known as the Lord Resistance Army (LRA) in Uganda, Islamic suicide bombers, and then there's the genocide in Rwanda that to a considerable degree was stired up with the help of priests. I could go on forever it seems.

People that wants to use force to get their way always seems to be able to ignore explicit texts like "you shall not kill" and support their actions on esoteric revisionist interpetations of some subordinate clause in their holy book.

So you are saying that you don't have all the information, but have made up your mind anyway....? So much for the scientific method....

She did not reject the scientific method - she simply didn't understand what he was meaning. Now, you could say that she shouldn't be a doctor because she is thick - that would be fair enough (if she was thick, and the lecturer not just crap at explaining it). But to say that she shouldn't be a doctor because of her religious views is abhorrent.

How're you're supposedly such a brilliant scientist and could miss the obvious so easily I don't know. Notice how his problem was with the fact that girl refused to accept even the possibility that evolution might be true. He did, in fact, not quibble with her rejection of evolution, but in her complete rejection of applying the scientific method towards evolution. She just flatly rejected it because it contradicted her beliefs. Such a person shouldn't be a scientist, nor a doctor. After all, science is the root of medicine, and bad science will equal bad medicine.

That's not even correct. It would be "How you are," not "How are you."
