    That's right.

The numbers of reported sexual assaults on children went up massively in Britain after the mid-80's.

Was this due to a massive increase in crimes, or due to people starting to take claims made by kids seriously?

    We don't know.

I'm curious Laz - if there was a 100% accurate way of knowing the exact statistics on crime in any particular country, do you think the proportion of crime committed by each race would match their proportion of the population exactly?

You didn't read the article, did you?

Yes I did. Did you read my post? I even quoted the part of the article that describes the use of a camera with a radar gun.

"The elegant study, designed by the Public Service Research Institute in Maryland, had taken photos with high-speed cameras and a radar gun of nearly 40,000 drivers on the turnpike."

No I don't. I think you'd probably get a difference amounting to probably a smidgen of a fraction of a percentage point, and that smidgen of a fraction of a percentage point would immediately be pounced on by ****wits with an agenda from whichever side of the debate they choose to plague.

You certainly did. You just failed to analyse it.

Was the radar gun set to record the movement of a passing car at any speed, or only speeding cars? We don't know.

Were the high speed camera and the rader gun linked so that the camera only snapped when the radar detected excess speed? We don't know.

Did the camera snap every car that passed, with the radar gun providing a record of their speed whether above or below the speed limit? We don't know.

So not exactly, but almost exactly? Let's not split hairs.

Personally, disregarding all other data and assumptions, I would be extremely suprised if it were that close. Even if you accept the 'blank slate' theory (which I don't) the variety of environments should be more than enough to mess up the statistics for one racial group or another.

Well we can't find out because the justice department won't release the full details of the study or allow it to be peer-reviewed. Why would they behave in this manner if the data proved their case?

If you're not going to accept any crime statistics this discussion is pretty much dead in the water anyway. You should at least admit that the stats are manipulated by those crying racism though.

Is there only one reason why results might be withheld- suppression of THE TRUTH!

What if they just thought the stats were crap, like I do?

They're being manipulated, misused and misunderstood by arseholes on both sides of the debate, Cal. You've just had demonstrated to you that your initial cast-iron certainty about the stats in that article might not be as reliable as you thought. Still happy about using it to "scientifically" prop up your race theories?

If you have any other sets of stats, feel free to bring them on. I love ripping those bunnies to shreds.

To clarify on some of my earlier posts, poverty does not *cause* crime. If that were true, 80% of the worlds population would be criminals.

However, in the UK at least, it is a factor contributing to crime. If you are brought up in poverty, are living in poverty, you are more likely to commit a crime.

                        Prove it.

It's a theory, Laz. Need. Simple need. If you don't have the money to afford food or rent or taxes or bills, then you might just decide to steal to get these things.

Middle class people committ crimes all the time. Shop lifting, all kinds of traffic violations, tax cheating, stealing from the office, etc.

I think what type of crime is more dependant on your social and economic standing. Whether or not someone commits a crime (of any sort) isn't impacted as much. That's something to do with a person's civic responsibility, which may be somewhat linked to poverty (poorer education), but can also be linked to wealth (egomania).

Rich people also have access to legal recourses poor don't, and are more likely to "get away" with something, or not be wrongly found guilty, than someone who can't afford the best lawyers.
