  • It's not another Vietnam, it's worse than Vietnam and we're only just into year 2.

Back from the histrionics to the issue at hand, I think it's funny that you brought up wheat deals on the day that Australia was awarded a very large wheat contract for Iraq. Then, later in the day, an $800 million contract for oil industry reconstruction was awarded to an Australian/US joint venture. The money for the oil contract will come directly from US taxpayers.

What was your point again, AH?
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

    • What would you rather want... a wheat company or oil company? You know which I would take. Black gold.
For there is [another] kind of violence, slower but just as deadly, destructive as the shot or the bomb in the night. This is the violence of institutions -- indifference, inaction, and decay. This is the violence that afflicts the poor, that poisons relations between men because their skin has different colors. - Bobby Kennedy (Mindless Menance of Violence)

That's the one we subsequently lost.

              • I find it ironic, Giancarlo, that you're flaming someone for a misspelled word. Not flaming them because they misspelt a word and completely changed the meaning of what they were trying to say, but merely because they misspelt a word.

Now, back to this ETA business. How many bombs did they detonate in Spain on 3/11, again?

Ditto PH, Ditto MikeH - If you don't want to go into Iraq, don't go into Iraq, but if you DO go into Iraq, don't backout halfway through. Not only is that soft and setting a bad precedent, but also not in anyway helping Iraq... which was the point of this thing if I recall.

Spain backing out was all politics, and it will be the same thing if Aus. does too. Its all about getting votes, and in my opinion thats just as bad as going into Iraq only for oil, or for some other self serving purpose.

So I'm sure that adds to the odds of you going to Iraq. Think that it's now at 1 in 10,000,000,000,000

Nice reach to try for credibility though.
