Aopen kt77-8x Max something like that.

It's only a year old and wasn't the cheapest one around

(came with SATA, USB2, Firewire ( need a PCI slot to connect them though, but are connected directly on the MB))

BTW, HardwareMonitor is a software program, just in case you thought I made a typo...

Do nothing else, except fix the BIOS settings back to standard default settings. Try the manual if you don't know what these are.
yeah, I got the BIOS settings back to what they were... but in windows, my settings are all ****ed up. I can't change my resolution, color depth, or much of anything else. All my drivers are still installed, it seems as if when I selected "choose settings that last worked" from the Windows startup screen, it did something. Any idea how to revert those settings?

Uninstall your video driver, reboot and install again.

Are you sure the current video driver isn't the generic windows (vga)driver?

Yes... It could be those "last settings" were settings from before your drivers were installed. They're still installed, so you can probably just select them from the System thing in your Control Panel.

okay, my sound card driver was ****ed up, so I had to reinstall my SBAudigy software... I also reinstalled my vid card driver... but everything is dark again. I think the RAM thing might be the problem. How can I tell if my RAM is PC1600 or PC2100?

                  PCmark? no sure.

Or you can take them out.

                          okay... my RAM is:

two 256meg DDR SDRAM PC2100... the timing is 266Mhz and latency is at 2.5

                          what is Sisoft Sandra?

                          PH: I'll try, thank you.

okay where the F is System Restore, I've never used it before. I look under Control Panel > System but there were no options to restore to a different date, despite my having 4 GIG devoted to system restore on my main drive.

Sisoft is the company name of software company that writes "Sandra" and "Sandrapro" which are hardware benchmarking and informational utilities.

As for the RAM, is it a specific make, or is it generic?

If its generic, it might be badly labelled... or just a bad batch.

it's a specific make... both are labeled clearly... also... it tells me the speed of the RAM at my startup screen... 266 MhZ
