  • Another "never forget"

We are getting close to the ten year anniversary of the genocide in Rwanda, a genocide the world did nothing about really.

I have to say I have very vivid memories of the TV images of that time, and it greatly shook my faith in a lot of things.

Church in Ntarama, Rwanda, is filled with grisly remains of victims of 1994 massacre; caretaker Emmanuel Murangira himself survived blood bath that killed tens of thousands of people seeking refuge at school; photos (M)

    Did nothing about it.
Damn. A missed opportunity to have people say the USA "butted in".

*sigh* The more things change, the more they remain the same.

I will always remember certain images from when I was in high school, and saw reports of this horrible time on Channel 1 -- Anderson Cooper started his journalist career there, and he went to Rawanda back then, to report this firsthand.

          And now he's on CNN.

Space is big. You just won't believe how vastly, hugely, mind- bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it's a long way down the road to the chemist's, but that's just peanuts to space.

A horrible tragedy. Everyone always pledges "never again", but yet it reoccurs.

The coverage at the time was not as extensive as it should have been. Americans can't find Rwanda on the map.

I remember people on TV arguing whether it was genocide or not..and how absurd it was.

I saw and still see no compelling reason why the US should have intervened in the Rawandan situation espececially given how the ghosts of Somalia were still haunting policy makers at the time.

If you have no real arguement beyond blind appeals to emotion which is really a poor reason to commit troops to any opperation, at least try not to be rude about it.
