I don't suppose thats enough to get sent home anymore, or is it?
“It is no use trying to 'see through' first principles. If you see through everything, then everything is transparent. But a wholly transparent world is an invisible world. To 'see through' all things is the same as not to see.”
I would give some money too, if you tell me of a system where I can send it without prohibitive transaction fees + taxes.

pchang, it might, don't know. However I know you end up with a hole in your foot.
Spiffor, good for you guy. I suggest we find some sucker, send him our checks, and have him go out and buy whatever the contributors and Oerdin think he needs. Keeping enough aside for the shipping...
BeBro, moral support, sure! Available at Pennys for only $29.95.

That would certainly work without costing me a fortune in transaction fees (and it will cost me about nil in mail fees). The only thing is that I don't know how much of the money I'll send will be sucked by the bank as it turns a Eurocheck into US dollars.

That's a good point. Maybe we would be better off doing 2 care packages. One mailed from the US and one from Europe. Someone 'over there' doing the same thing as I described earlier. Taking checks from europeans, buying stuff and shipping it. Someone like...you Spiffor?

I'll get a copy of my APO address and will post it in this thread tomorrow. On the up side mailing anything to an APO address costs no more then mailing a letter or package in the domestic US. That means a letter would cost something like $0.33.
I hear batteries are at a premium. Is this true for you?
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

Just a thought, if we had enough we could actually send Oerdin one of those kevlar vests...
No need. The Army issued me an Interceptor Body Armor (IBA) which is a level 3+ bullet proof vest. The vest is composed of a kevlar vest (front, back, neck, and a crotch cover) plus two large ceramic plates which cover the front and the back. The kevlar vest protects against 9mm and granade fragments while the ceramic plate protects against 7.62 rifle rounds. Add on the standard issue GI kevlar helmet and I feel pretty well protected.

That used to be true but just last week AAFES (the Army-Air Force Exchange Services) finally got around to opening a PX here at Camp Iron Horse. The PX is small but it contains most essential items at a fair price.
What is hard to find are things like cheese or summer sausage (highly valued items because they don't have to be refrigerated), letters from friends or family, newish magazines, and various things on those lines.
