      My apartment is Texas of Finland. Why? Because I'm big, but my apartment is too small for me, plus others gives me trouble, I kick them in the mouth. My apartment takes no crap from no one. Plus it's located at the first floor, like Texas is down too. Plus, I'm always ready to take it on the whole building if they start messing with my sauna turns, as I have declared my apartment independent of their messing with the sauna turns. If it's my turn, it's me who goes. If others want to come too, they have to play nice or I'll twist their nuts in the knot.

        [quote]It is difficult to find an equivalent to Textas in France...

        Let's see, we are looking for an area that is:
        - obnoxious
        - wealthy
        - believes it's a separate country
        - fiercely conservative

            wow, you schmucks should spend a lil time in texas before you start talking smack.....one of the things that is great about living in a southern state is that girls have to stay in "swim suit shape" 9 months out of the year....Also, Slowwhand is a bery poor sample population to base judgements on

                  Had you spent any time in the ancient land of Kernow, you would know it is very much not England's Texas.

                  I stand by Yorkshire- they are the English equivalent of the Scots who paint their faces blue and mark it with the saltire every time they're just about to lose at football to the United Arab Emirates' Ladies team (reserves), and brag 'Wha's like us?'.

                  They have pockets of wealth and pockets of poverty (rural and inner city).

                  They have a loud obnoxious accent (see reruns of 'All Creatures Great and Small').

                  In former times they could bore Olympic style about how Yorkshire was the U.K.'s biggest county, the West Riding, the South Riding......zzzzz....zzzzzz....

                  They have people who believe that by virtue of being born there, they are god's gift to the human race- Geoff Boycott, William Hague.

                  They have a superabundance of self-satisfaction and smugness.

                    I second the nomination of Manchester - and all those people who don't live there, but support their footy team.

                    Of course City supporters are decent folk.

                      And Manchester City is of course a Manchester football team. So you consider Manchester's 'real' football team to be Manchester United then?

                      Texas= a state.

                      Manchester= a city.

                      Are your rheumatoid semantics playing up today?

                        A place of such complete density, desolation, and horror, that not even light, common sense, or liberals can escape.

                          No. I should have thought that my intention to state the opposite was clear.

                                Are these the criteria? If they are then I don't get that from the Queenslanders I know. I have never visited the state itself though.... In NZ this would be difficult to say. Parts of Auckland fit the bill, and their Mayor is pretty much an NZ version of Bush, except more articulate.
