  • Rumsfeld and wife donate to Pentagon 911 memorial

    --------------
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- U.S. Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld and his wife, Joyce, have donated $100,000 to help fund a Pentagon memorial for the 184 victims killed there on September 11, 2001, sources said.

Believed to be the largest single gift to the project so far, the donation comes as fund raising for the memorial is going slowly.
    ...
    ----------------

Kerry and his wife have tons of money. Edwards is a multi-millionaire. Maybe the Dems running for President could donate to this memorial to show they care about the victims of 911?
'There is a greater darkness than the one we fight. It is the darkness of the soul that has lost its way. The war we fight is not against powers and principalities, it is against chaos and despair. Greater than the death of flesh is the death of hope, the death of dreams. Against this peril we can never surrender. The future is all around us, waiting, in moments of transition, to be born in moments of revelation. No one knows the shape of that future or where it will take us. We know only that it is always born in pain.'"

I like how you re-defined "caring" to mean "the desire to donate big bucks to the Pentagon 9-11 memorial." I'll notify the good folks at the OED immediately.

Well, this memorial will serve to remember and honor the victims who died in the Pentagon on 9-11.

Helping to build such a memorial is a good thing, isn't it?

Yes, but it doesn't define "caring."

It can demonstrate you care in a concrete way. Just saying you care about something is nice, but actually doing something is better!

Jeez... when I think there is hope for this country some asshat turns a charitable giving into a partisan bashfest.

Not donating to the Pentagon memorial is not equivalent to "doing nothing" to care about 9-11 victims. I didn't donate to this particular memorial either... does that mean I didn't care when I wrote the personal $250 check for one of the many 9-11 victim funds a couple of years ago, or when I organized an office donation drive and convinced management to match dollar-to-dollar all donations made by employees (over $1,500, meaning a check of over $3,000 was sent)?

And do you know that the others haven't donated? No, you just know that Rumsfeld has openly PR'd the fact that he did.

Wow, diplomat...you've even managed to rankle two staunch Republicans with this steaming pile.

How about you go look up how much money Kerry and Edwards have given to charitable causes, including those relating to 9/11, before you make these kind of revolting generalizations?

                What bad taste.

Actually, the check I made out was to an organization that specifically helped the Pentagon victims - my wife made the perfectly good point that the WTC tower victims were getting a disproportionate amount of the TV press (better footage, obviously ) and that the Pentagon victims were relatively... "uncared for", to use your phrase, diplomat.

Obviously the Diplomat feels uber liberals like Ted Turner are wonderful people given the huge amount of money they have donated: when will those rich conservatives like Forbes start donating their billion! Shame on all conservatives!

Well, there's the question of who TT is giving the money to, GePap.

Of course the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has $24 billion in funding. I guess that means they "care" more than Ted... or me, even.

Has Bush donated to this fund? If not, he must be a heartless communist bastard who bathes in the blood of small children. Obviously.
