Not if you are talking about countries... at least under no meaning I've come across. I mean I've NEVER heard that Luxembourg is richer than Germany.

He was a hell of a lot better than Pinochet.

Being a commie in the Western Hemisphere was an especially big sin. Raise your hands anyone who is shocked that the US would support the military over the commies any day of the week after a few years experience with Castro.(\__/)

No problem with threadjack, because this one is dead anyway.Originally posted by Imran Siddiqui
Here are better numbers (the only ones that count):

 GDP (PPP):
 China: $5.989 Trillion
 Norway: $149.1 Billion

 (From CIA World Factbook)

 Treadjack OVER . .
So, my question: in which country do you prefer to live: high GDP but low per capita, or high GDP per capita but low GDP?
When talking about a country's wealth, doesn't that imply individual wealth?

I had always thought of wealth as an individual measure, ie. GDP per capita is sorta 'wealth' while GDP is 'economic power'. From when was wealth 'collective'?
I take it that your views imply that a billion poors necessarily make a 'wealth'? Who owns this 'wealth'?In Soviet Russia, Fake borises YOU.

The later, but that has no bearing here.

No, of course not. A country's wealth is how much the country has... higher GDP the better.“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

I'd accept both. Or, more properly, I'd ask for clarification if ever told either that L>G or G>L12-17-10 Mohamed Bouazizi NEVER FORGET

I agree with OB. Wealth should be consider as an individual measures. China may gain more, but is a poor country in terms of way of life of its citizens. China may gain more, but is a poor country in terms of way of life of its citizens.

When Adam Smith wrote the Wealth of Nations, I don't think he was refering to the individuals of those nations, but rather the total assets of all individuals in the nation combined.“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

When I did say they were 'poor'? They are rich, just not as rich. They have wealth, just not as much wealth.

Jeez, you really have an affinity for strawmen .

Imran, "rich" is used both as an extrinsic and an intrinsic measure.

And again, I don't accept either usage, since they are flawed without a convention on which one is intended. Which again, I've seen no sign of.12-17-10 Mohamed Bouazizi NEVER FORGET
