MLB owners are greedy bastards who'll do anything to make more money.

College Presidents are greedy bastards who'll do anything to make more money. The Bowl system bring in more money for the big conferences and schools than a playoff. A playoff would spread that wealth around more. The big conferences would lose out.

Why would LSU want another game? They already have the real national championship trophy...

And even the BCS went on record and said how the system failed this year... and that they will be making big changes for next year. I guess they could no longer ingore how stupid they looked this year, and finally admitted that they screwed it up. They are talking about adding the human element like they do for March Madness... and using the computer as just another tool in the seleciton process. About time.

Selection committee is a bad, bad, bad idea.

I thought the whole point of the BCS was to acknowledge the fact that human polls are sometimes wrong.

Yeah... but their system this year couldn't deliver the number one team in both major polls to the championship game. They admit they were wrong... they are trying to make some changes to show they care.... but all they really care about is maintaining their grip on the sport. It's time for the NCAA to take back control of THEIR sport.

I thought it was to get a 'true' undisputed national championship by talking a ****load of polls and averaging out who was really 1 and 2.

The very nature of college sports, I think, warrants selection committees. Too many teams, too little time to implement a truly fair system like a football playoff.

Yeah, as little as I know about college football, the BCS is a joke. But any substitute is still going to require a subjective selective process.

That said, I would like to see a six-team bowl system spread out over 2 weeks. A national Champ. game one week over new years. It would still be a joke, but less of one.

They are going to have the same problem every time there are more than 2 teams with the same record. You could concievably have 3 unbeatens. Or 5 teams with a single loss. It is going to be a problem any time that happens (if you want a clear victor, you need a playoff structure.)

But if you are going to stay with the bowls...and you are going to have the BCS attempting to get champions, then the current system makes sense. It makes sure that bowls don't have teams locked up so they can't compete. And it gets the two teams with best schedule (and same record) to the table.

All that crap about losing early or late or who you lost to or if it was in a conf championship is silly in my book. Strenght of schedule is a HUGE factor.

But net, net...I would be just as happy not to have a playoff and not to have BCS. Just go back to the old days of bowl games. That is what the PAC10 wants.

A 'HUGE' factor that you have hardly any control over. The only control is out of conference opponents, and they may all suck that year (like USC's did this year). You can't just magically make your conference foes better.

Either do that or a playoff. None of this half-way ****!

actually teams in college have way more control of strength of schedule than teams in the pros. In any case, regardless of their control, their is more accomplishment in defeating a tougher slate.
