            I just built a new one a couple of months ago...
            It cost a little more than $900 but has been worth the price imho.

            MOBO: chaintech 9cjs-zenith (800 Mhz FSB) (came with dual ethernet, a remote control, integrated 7.1 surround sound and a front panel 5in1 card reader among others )
            CPU: 3.0GHz Intel Pentium 4C w/HT
            RAM: 1 gig PC3200 DDR400
            GPU: ATI radeon 9700 All-in-wonder pro (128mb)
            Optical drives: DVD writer combo: Sony DRU-510A
            CD burner/dvd reader: Lite-on LTC-48161h
            Hard drives: 2 10000 rpm 36 gig WD raptors in a RAID 0
            and 1 7200 rpm wd 250 gig

            V.92 modem (still 56k )
            iomega zip 750
            sony standard floppy
            Logitech MX500 optical mouse
            a keyboard from an old sony vaio

            crappy 15 inch LCD Medion monitor (my next upgrade)

                              Thanks Orange yes, it's my room. Is not big (3 x 4 meters / 9.8 x 13 feet), so I had to put the tv and the dvd player hanging from there.

                                Hard drives (120 gb total), cd/dvd drives, sound card, monitor, and all else I'm scavenging from my current computer.

                                Total cost was just under $700
