I'm a pretty good cook - only thing to elude success was choux pastry (a tricky material to prepare right).

I could be wrong, but I think a lot of people go through the "bolognaise sauce" stage and keep going through the other side... that's certainly how I get started.

Living away from your parents is a great incentive to learn!

I think this poll is biased - how many real men people who hate cooking would click on a thread "Can you cook?"

(btw, I hate cooking and suck at it, being essentially incapable of it).

My staple is a chicken stir fry. You can put anything into them...mushrooms, ginger, onions, peppers, carrots, corn, spring onions.

          On a bed of salad.

I don't eat rice, white bread, potatoes or pasta. All bad for you.

I can, if I have to. But when I fell like cooking, which is not often, it turns out good. Not great, but good. But the problem is that my mom makes too good food, so everything taste normal compared to it.

Wrong. Only bad if that's what you eat ALL the time. Pasta is great for energy but if you spend your time sitting down and eat pasta 50% of the time, yes, it is bad for you. Same thing with the rest mentionned. It all depends on your body activity.

I am a good cook, and my food "always" tastes good, though experiments have gone bad now and then... and every cook has burned something...

I hate it when my wife cooks so I generally do it. She makes good food, but she is very inefficient and complains if something goes wrong. Something always goes wrong with her.

PA, I agree Spec that technically there isn't one food that will kill you or can be "bad" for you, unless you eat it all the time. The foods you mentioned are carbs, and the over eating of carbs are what contribute to weight gain. Still, carbs are stored as long chain sugar and are the most easily accessed form of energy. Thus, if you exercise (as everyone should) carbs are good for you and will prevent you from burning muscle.

I'm a good cook, so long as you like ceyenne pepper.

I used to like to think I could cook, but ever since I managed to make a frozen pizza combust, I've stayed away from everything but the microwave...

Not a big fan of cooking, but I can follow a recipe, and it usually isn't disastrous. The only unquestionable success I ever had was with Bavarian cream.

I like to cook, it's the washing of dishes that I don't like.

I can cook spagheti and Tacos/burritos.

That's about it aside from things like cooking in my toaster oven or microwave.

Oh I can cook on the grill and the george forman grill as well. Everyone should be able to do that I would hope. Any real man should know who to cook meat over a fire . I usually cook chicken or burgers, but occasionally steak.

A nice Thai noodle dish, but havent made it in some time.

So basically I enjoy cooking, but prefer to make "fun" foods, not staples. Havent baked in years, but thats fun too.
