It's as if going for a constitutional amendment is not about preventing a state from 'sneaking' some pro-gay legislation through, but rather, holding up a big sign and proudly asserting "NO GAYS ALLOWED"
Why do you say that? The movement towards an anti-gay marriage amendment didn't start until after state courts had begun flirting with legalized civil unions and gay marriages, so it seems pretty clear that this is an attempt to stem judicial activism in this area, not just run-of-the-mill homophobia.
