There are some beautiful sunsets (and sunrises) to be seen on Bald Mountain and Alpha Site, but other than that, there's nothing there, except lots of alcohol.....

I ran into a couple of guys in Monterey who were working on the Sgt. York in 1984. I was in Monterey 1984-1985. Life was good.

Monterey is beautiful! I went there for an on-post chess tournament in the spring of '85. Wonderful views on the coast! Lots of good food - really hated leaving there!

Yeah, Monterey is a great post. To bad I'm not there.

              Pitty me people.
It's the army, what did you expect? Showing off at bars in your posh uniform and scoring chicks? At least they are only shooting blanks at you right now. Where you are going soon, they will not.

Oerdin, wanna have a Apolymeet when you get back to SD?

It could be worse Oerdin: you could have the aesthetics of an interior design too, or be gay. Or both (cough, cough).

At least we now know the true reason behind the U.S. army's 'invention' of the internet. So bored people with access to guns don't go postal.

Just stay away from clocktowers and grain silos, Oerdin. And come back from Iraq in one piece, unharmed. I'd miss your misrepresentation of socialism, and your enthusiasm for the Celts and Turkish coffee.

I'm having an Australian grown coffee at the moment, which I think you'd enjoy- it's called boomerang blend, but despite the touristy name is actually rather good.

Aghhh, Fort Polk. I went there for JRTC back in 1996 and I am truly glade I never had to go back to that bayou again.

The SSG who was in charge of me ended up sleeping with what could be the ugliest woman I have ever seen in my life. We are talking fat, missing teeth, bad skin, and the works. I actually took a few pictures of them together in a bar and then kept taunting him with them until he finally retired two years ago.
