why is it silly?'There is a greater darkness than the one we fight. It is the darkness of the soul that has lost its way. The war we fight is not against powers and principalities, it is against chaos and despair. Greater than the death of flesh is the death of hope, the death of dreams. Against this peril we can never surrender. The future is all around us, waiting, in moments of transition, to be born in moments of revelation. No one knows the shape of that future or where it will take us. We know only that it is always born in pain.'"
G'Kar - from Babylon 5 episode "Z'ha'dum"

What if it contains 1000 gratuitously violent images per second? People with the capacity to process information into meaningful form that quickly deserve a warning...not to take that much dexedrine, I guess. So it's pretty stupid even then.

well, for one, i wasn't aware that we needed a new word for it.
doesn't "contains gratuitous violence" describe it better?
so why not "contains gratuitous sex" instead of pornographic?"A person cannot approach the divine by reaching beyond the human. To become human, is what this individual person, has been created for.” Martin Buber

1. pornographic is a word that has been around a long while.
2. pornographic's meaning is linked to "contains gratuitous sex".
3. killographic is a new word which does not appear to have any traction; it is not punchy, it is not cool, and therefore does not look like it will become synonymous with "contains gratuitous violence". it runs the risk of falling into the buzzword fever. (different from the buzzword disease.)
4. it fails the audio test. if you hear anyone say it, at all, it sounds dorky. supremely dorky. "Terminator X: Jason meets Freddy meets Ahnold. Warning, contains killographic scenes."
5. "killographic" is an adjective. to use it, one must say "contains killographic scenes" or some such. "contains gratuitous violence" holds the same meaning, in the same number of words, and violence itself is a noun, avoiding that trap. because the important part of that sentence is held in the noun, rather than the adjective, further gradations are possible. "contains mild violence" "contains cartoon violence" "contains hard-core violence", whereas with "killographic", one would have to say, "contains mildly killographic scenes" or some variation thereof.B♭3

By the way heres the groups site.

They include concise game reviews - they like Simcity4 and RON, and are, not surprisingly, rather less enthusiastic for the latest Diablo, which they consider Ok for ages 17 and up."A person cannot approach the divine by reaching beyond the human. heres a sample from their latest "report card"
"Video and computer games continue to grow in popularity among children and youth. We completed the largest student survey ever and found that 87% of youth in grades four through twelve now play video games with 96% of boys playing regularly. This bodes well for the continued growth of the industry, and a balanced diet of good games can certainly be a positive part of children's lives. Nevertheless, as games become more engaging and popular, concerns about their impact on youth become more urgent.
The concerns fall into two categories:
The easy access that boys have to increasingly ultra-violent M-rated games and the popularity of the most violent games with that group.
The growing issue of screen time as it relates to the obesity epidemic. ""A person cannot approach the divine by reaching beyond the human. To become human, is what this individual person, has been created for.” Martin Buber

creating words for the hell of it is an asstastic pasttime.
attaching "killographic" to try and stigmatise gratuitously violent games is merely adding another word to subvert.
why?
go to the mall. look in the stores. you will see girl's babydoll tees that say "porn star".B♭3
