  • Has anyone tried Eharmony?

I keep hearing the radio ad about Eharmony.com and how it will match you up based on proven dimensions of compatibility. Has anyone here tried it?

I am real tempted to sign up just to see if I get to meet anyone interesting...
'There is a greater darkness than the one we fight. It is the darkness of the soul that has lost its way. The war we fight is not against powers and principalities, it is against chaos and despair. Greater than the death of flesh is the death of hope, the death of dreams. Against this peril we can never surrender. The future is all around us, waiting, in moments of transition, to be born in moments of revelation. No one knows the shape of that future or where it will take us. We know only that it is always born in pain.'"

    God damnit...

I just spend a half hour taking their personality profile only to be told:

eHarmony is based upon a complex matching system developed through extensive testing of married individuals. One of the requirements for it to work successfully is for participants to fall into our rigorously defined profiles. If we aren't able to match a user well using these profiles, the most considerate approach is to inform them early in the process.

We are so convinced of the importance of creating compatible matches to help people establish and enjoy happy, lasting relationships that we choose not to provide service rather than risk an uncertain match.

Unfortunately, we are not able to make our profiles work for you. Our matching system is not suitable for about 20% of potential users, so 1 in 5 people simply would not benefit from our service. We hope that you understand that we regret our inability to provide service for you at this time.

the personality report that I received upon completion was highly accurate, though, mainly because it restated all of the things that I said in the questionnaire

I did not know that. I am about 28% through the questionaire myself. Hopefully, I am not wasting my time.

Although, I guess it is good that they have high standards and don't just mix and match anybody to anybody.

I also hope that if it does give a good match, that the girl will live fairly close to me. I'd hate to be told that my dream woman lives in siberia or something. That would be a bit far to travel. LOL.

You'd think they could match up the people in that 20% with each other: "You think for yourself. You're unconventional, etc."

Not necessarily. There are some people who hate themselves.

I'm sure my wife would have an issue with this.
