Life is not measured by the number of breaths you take, but by the moments that take your breath away.

He also hates Texans and Australians, he does diversify." ~ Braindead

Last Xmas dissolved into a Festivus for my family, complete with the "airing of grievances."
It was actually a week before Xmas, and we were all together because my brother's family was flying down to Florida to spend Xmas with his wife's parents. My sister-in-law was behaving strangely all night. Very cold to everyone, barely acknowledging the people who gave her gifts. About 30 seconds after she walked out the door she stormed back in and yelled, "You've obviously all heard Helen's"--my mother--"side of story, now you're gonna hear mine!" At which point everyone else in the house--my parents (even my dad, enraged, futilely trying to stand while simultaneously waving his cane at her--the Festivus feat of strength!), grandparents, aunt and uncle and cousin--started yelling at her, before my grandfather escorted her from the premises.
Needless to say, I had NOT heard my mother's "side of the story." Moreover, I wasn't even aware that a story existed.
Apparently, there had been a serious falling out between my sister-in-law and the rest of the fam about 6 months prior; she had denied everyone contact with her two kids (my niece and nephew) and shouted at everyone who tried to talk to her. No one had told me this because, being in med school, "I had enough to worry about."
