I stopped exploring christmas music after being totally gobsmacked by A Christmas Gift For You From Phil Spector. Although that still is the christmas album to end all christmas albums (with "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)" being the best christmas song of all time and the Ronettes' version of "Santa Claus Is Coming To Town" being the best cover), I've recently been looking into other ones to buy, and have provisionally plumpecd out for the Trojan Christmas Reggae Box Set, with classic 60s compo Soul Christmas a pretty hot bet for next year.

              "Buckskin went averaging"

              Let's try an actual translation:

              Santa Claus screwed Mrs. Claus
              excitedly in Korvatunturi*
              but while Santa was away
              That devious old lady
              used candles

              Santa Claus, Santa claus
Beard ripped off, eyes poked through
              Come here, we're not afraid
Daddy's going to kick your ass
Mommy will shoot you with a shotgun
Little brother with an air rifle
Give the presents, get the hell off
              Before I count to five

Basically, they're parodies of traditional Finnish christmas songs. All good schoolboys know them by heart.

"Spirit merges with matter to sanctify the universe. Matter transcends to return to spirit. The interchangeability of matter and spirit means the starlit magic of the outermost life of our universe becomes the soul-light magic of the innermost life of our self." - Dennis Kucinich, candidate for the U. S. presidency
"That’s the future of the Democratic Party: providing Republicans with a number of cute (but not that bright) comfort women." - Adam Yoshida, Canada's gift to the world

                Tass,

What's that song where the lyrics goes 'I'm dreaming of a white christmas..'? maybe it's called white christmas. I like that one a lot. I wonder who sang it so good.. it was some male singer and he sang like the oldschool style.

Yep, it's called "White Christmas," sung by Bing Crosby. Well into my lifetime, it held the title of best-selling single ever; I don't know if it still does, though.

O Come, O Come Emmanuel is simply the best Xmas song there is, especially in some of the spectacular arrangements done by the MTC.

I found out recently this was also my great-grandfather's favorite song, partly because he was the minister at a church named Emmanuel something or other.

Most christmas songs sang by Charles Aznavour... they are wonderful.
I'm not a complete idiot: some parts are still missing.

                              self biased,

Which magnum mysterium do you mean? Basically, this is a quite old text. I know
                              - an excellent setting by Francis Poulenc which I would rate among the finest Christmas music ever written
                              - a very good setting by William Byrd,
                              - and a quite good setting by Tomas Luis Vitoria.

Other than that my favourites are
                              - Fröhlich soll mein Herze springen
                              - In dulci jubilo

I like perhaps even more the following ones, but you didn't ask for advent songs (for those nitpickers I count myself to)
                              - O come, o come Emmanuel
                              - O Heiland, reiß die Himmel auf
                              - Die Nacht ist vorgedrungen (unfortunately nearly unknown even in Germany)

Except for the first, I tried to rate only the melody. There are quite some settings of "lesser" melodies which I really love. Also I avoided the huge realm of motets ...

Sorry to whoever mentioned it, but Greensleeves is a lovesong which is not exactly made for Christmas.
Why doing it the easy way if it is possible to do it complicated?

Yeah, I thought it had fallen from that spot. What overtook it?
