  • I was fired from my job for allegedly being gay.

My job is fine, they compliment me on my work. Then the brother of the assistant manager with him present is in the back trying to guess who is gay or not in our store. They both are military types that obsess about that. His brother (they both work there) asks me if I like to flirt with girls I told them no. Within 30 minutes rumors are being reported to me that I'm a terrible worker from another coworker that won't tell me who started it. I go to ask the assistant manager what these rumors are about and he agrees with them and starts *****ing about my work saying that I could have done something while I was coming to talk to him. 3 minutes later he asks me to clock out and I'm no longer on the schedule.

Hell I didn't even say I was gay, I just said I didn't like to flirt with girls. And it is directly against this companies policy to discriminate against people's sexual orientation.

I won't say who my employer is until I've explored legal options and implications...

    This is total BS!!!

Not to mention illegal in many places.

Regardless if you are or not, sue 'em. And get the ACLU involved out of spite.
The cake is NOT a lie. It's so delicious and moist.

Aren't you? I seem to remember in one of your insane rants that you said that. It's so hard to keep track of them EvC.

Anyway, best of luck on the suit though.

Depending on where you live, you have a wrongful termination suit and a civil rights discrimination case.

That's not the point, they never should have asked such a question it was entirely inappropriate, and certainly not fired me because of what they thought my answer meant.

Yes I am, and my BF was the one who got me the job there (he works there), and so far they know we are just friends, if he gets fired he can't pay his bills. So I'm trying not to complicate things.

Remember Thorn, the leprechaun tells you to burn things. Do it!

I've had my fill of nasty management staff. Do you have to be particularly unpleasant and deceiptful to get such positions?

If it is against the company's policy, then my suggestion is to go to their boss, and their bosses boss and explain the situation. You might not want to, and it likely won't come to anything, but you do want to have your bases covered by going through proper channels before you go to court and they try to paint you a psychologically-unstable, lawsuit-happy fool who bilks poor companies.

Naw, you just have to apply. Sounds like these two bozos have applied their own particular brand of nepotism to Peter Principle both of them as high as their "talents" can take them.

No, it definitely seems to require a special kind of person, who is willing to f**k whoever necessary to get where they are. And be especially unpleasant.

Just as there are many types of Leftists, Rightists, Englishmen, Americans, etc., all with their own tastes, strengths, and foibles so are there as many types of managers. Don't paint them all one color with your brush, OK?

Why does a civil rights suit depend upon where one lives. Civil rights laws are almost always national laws.

Even so, is it now a violation of the civil rights laws to discriminate against gays?

I don't think he can file under the Civil Rights Act, but if it is the company's explicit policy not to discriminate out of sexual orientation, then he does have an arguable case.
