I'm looking some info on Las Vegas hotels.. we'd like to be near the strip, or in it. Some cool mega hotel would be our choice.. So, are these hotels expensive? What about eating, I heard eating is relatively cheap? What about drinking, is their anyway of getting cheap booze all night long?

    Ok, that's it.

drinking is free if you are gambling.

As for hotel prices- well I'd have to look that up. I never have the need to stay in a hotel in my home town

Hotel rooms used to be cheap and even free, and you can get them comp'd (complimentary). But you have to gamble and learn how to get comps- something I can never seem to do- though I don't gamble much.

But hotels are learning that many people who stay at their hotel don't always gamble there. They go other places. So they had to raise prices on rooms- they could no longer offer them for free for the most part.

You should ask Lancer how much he paid for his room at the Mandalay Bay. That is a nice big hotel. Though he said the food there was fairly expensive- it is an upscale hotel. I recommended he eat at other places.

A good place to stay that is right off the strip is the Rio, or even the Gold Coast (right accross the street from the Rio). They are real close to the strip- walkind distance- though it might be close to 1 mile to get to the strip- not super close. The Rio is nicer than the Gold Coase and likely will cost more, but should be cheaper than the strip hotels.

I'm not sure how nice of rooms you like to stay in. I'm always curious that so many tourists like to stay in super fancy rooms with room service. Why? If you are only using the room to sleep in (or possibly have sex in) what else do you need it for? No one takes pictures of their hotel rooms. All I care about is clean rooms. I can care less what furniture and artwork is in it. The only thing I care about is a pest-free room. So my opinion will be biased towards cheaper hotels.

If you want even cheaper, the Wild Wild West is near the strip as well. That is close to the Luxor, Excaliber, Tropicana, New York New York, MGM, and Mandalay Bay. Those rooms might not have much aside from the essentuals.

The Gold Coast and Rio are up on Flamingo Road. They are close to the Bellagio, Flamingo, and Ceasars Palace. Also another cheap option for Flamingo road is the Key Largo and Terrible's casino. They should be real cheap. They are a little farther from the strip. You could walk it, but it might be easier to take a bus/cab. Also the Westin is on Flamingo as well. That is practically on the strip- it have been remodeled from the old Maxim- and might be pricier.

Next major road up is Spring Mountain. There aren't really any off-strip casinos that I can think of. Strip casinos on/near this road are Treasure Island, Venetian, and the Mirage- and a few other smaller ones.

The last major road on the strip portions is Sahara. Major strip casinos on/near this road are the Sahara, Circus Circus and the Stratosphere. My mom works at the circus circus. They are right on the north end of the strip. They should have real cheap rooms. They are getting pretty old, and might be a little run down- but the rooms should be clean. The Palace Station is near the strip on Sahara. But that is a busy road near the freeway, and you might want to take a cab to the strip. Plus the north end of the strip isn't as "new" as the middle and southern ends.

Even on the strip you can find many smaller casinos, and near the strip there are many motels.

There are so many to choose from. I wouldn't know where to start. Maybe try priceline.com or something.

But just so you know, the strip going from south to north has these major crossroads- Russel (this is where the welcome to Las Vegas sign is- people love getting their picture taken here), Tropicana, Harmon (this isn't a major road as it doesn't go through the freeway- but I'll mention it because the Alladin is located here), Flamingo, Spring Mountain, and Sahara.

And of course you have the downtown district which is seperate from the strip. Though they are only a few miles apart. You can follow Las Vegas Blvd (the strip) north to downtown. The only thing seperating them is wedding chapels and adult motels mostly.

Excellent information Dissident, thanks for your effort!

No, we don't mind the hotel rooms being kind of not excellent quality, if they're clean, that's enough.

Mandala Bay sounds good, hey they hold UFC events there, so it can't be all bad..

Mandalay Bay will be one of the more expensive of course.

The newer hotels are more "upscale". These include the Mandalay Bay and the Bellagio. The Venetian is a bit upscale as well.

But even in those places I think you can find rooms for less than $100 on the weekdays.

Another add-on to alcohol. I don't recommend drinking the drinks inside the rooms. They are more expensive.

Like I said, if you are gambling, drinking is free. Other good places to buy booze are supermarkets and drug stores (these will be cheaper than convenience stores- but even convenience store prices aren't bad). Drinking wine at meals can get expensive (this is true anywhere in the U.S.- restaurants make most of their money on wine and desserts).

Lancer was asking for $1 blackjack tables when he was here. The only other strip casino I know of that has $1 blackjack is the Sahara. But there are several off-strip local casinos that offer $1 blackjack.

as for nightlife, there is too much to tell. I'm not sure how into nightclubs you are. We have had a bunch spring up the last 10 years. Many of them are "trendy" and very poular.

The Mandalay Bay has 2 of them- and the house of blues. The Hard Rock hotel has the joint- tha'ts more of a concert venue along with Mandalay's house of blues.

The luxor has the Ra nightclub. The beach is a nighclub located off the strip on convention center drive (right accross from the convention center). These really don't start hopping until midnight.

We have many, many bars. Hundreds of bars are in Las Vegas. Some are themed- we do have a British pub, and several Irish bars.

outdoor activities can include skiing at Lee Canyon/Mt. Charleston. The lifts are now open. The skiing isn't real great here compared to northern nevada, Utah, and Colorado. But it's real close. Rock climbing and hiking in red rock canyon. Boating on Lake Mead. Tours at the Hoover Dam. Death Valley is less than 200 miles away- same with Zion National Park.

$100 per room or per person? Price like that is very nice . We'd be ready to pay more, just to get a glimpse inside the Las Vegas glory.... You see, it's a big thing for us young foreigners .. feeling like Robert De Niro in Casino.. But most likely looking like Johnny Depp, Beneficio Del Toro (Fear...... in Las Vegas) and Jack Nicholas (Leaving Las Vegas). But it's all good.

We'd definitely like to see that famous sign, maybe be real tourists and get a picture of it with us in it...

We might be gambling, but not very much... very little.
So if you're gambling, how can you get free booze? Do they give you, or can you go and get? There must be some limits, because if there weren't, we'd be playing sluts with 25 cents slowly, and carry gallons of booze.

as for shows, there are many of those as well. I don't really watch shows, so I don't know all of them.

Seigried and Roy are cancelled obviously. Lance Burton is the other major magician. Are Penn and Teller magicians? Not sure I never watch them- they might be comedians for all I know. A few other minor shows.

Momma Mia is popular with women. there are several "sexy" shows on the strip. Excalibur still has their dinner show where you can watch knights "joust" and such on with horses/armour and all. Splash is still going strong. Wayne Newton of course is here. Along with Celine Deon. Many comedians are here off and on. David Brenner signed a gig at the Westin- he's like a permanent comedian now. But many comedians spend a week or two at a time performing. And the Riveira has a comedy club.

And finally that brings us to strip clubs. I probably know most about them . Not that I go that often- I'm not that rich mind you. But I have been to several, and there used to be a real good website that rated them- but that website is gone. If you go to one of those I recommend one withing las vegas city limits. The ones in unincorporated clark country passed some bull**** ordinance trying to "regulate" lap dances. You can still get a lot of contact in places like Cheetahs though. I don't recommend Crazy Horse Too. It's nice and all, but a tourist trap (they have a deal with cab drivers to have cabbies bring tourists there)

                        sluts?

a coctail waitress will bring your booze. You get better service at the tables (card games and games such as craps and roulette), but even playing slots the waitress will get around to you- it just takes them longer to make their rounds as there are so many machines. You can drink as much as you want. Though if you get too drunk and unruly they might toss you out.

The room prices should be per room. But they usually charge an extra amount per person. Though only like 5 or $10 or so.

I stayed at Mandalay Bay with my girlfriend over New Years 2000-2001. It was a really great suite with marble tile work two king sized beds a sepporate shower and jacuzi tub. The night club Rum Jungle was great but expensive, Wolfgang Pucks was decent but not really worth the price. The bars had just about every drink you could think of and the bartenders were fun to watch as they juggled bottles of liquor and pored glasses stacked as pyramids without spilling a drop.

The only down sides were the high prices and the fact that Mandalay Bay was so far away from the rest of the stripe.

yes Mandalay Bay is real expensive. It's not that far way, but it is on the soutern most end of the strip. It's super close to the Luxor, Excaliber and Tropicana hotels. New York New York and MGm are right nearby as well.

If its anything like in New Orleans, they have waitors and such walk around and offer you drinks. As long as you play you get your booze.

And, Ive never seen a slut come with free booze. Id sure like to meet one though.
