I thought I'd start this as a companion thread to Starchild's "I Left My Heart In...".

What cities/towns have you spent time in that you would recommend only to people you really dislike ? What was it about them that must be seen/experienced to be believed.

Wroclaw, Poland - I never saw thick yellow air before. Although I have no respritory problems, I had trouble breathing for 2 extremely unpleasant days. The year was 1990. Wroclaw is a heavy industry city. Maybe they improved things since then. I would recommend all major heavy industries send there CEOs for extended periods.

Esslingen, Germany. A hideous place, dirty and stinks. I was there once on a vacation trip with the family, for one day only, because according to a tourists guide they have a "beautiful wild park with dolphinarium" there. What I found instead (after paying entrance fee, of course), was a rotten, stinking pool without any visible sign of life in it whatsoever.

I'll be blunt and say:

Niagara Falls, Canada: there's no city more fake than that. There just cannot be. Except some cities in USA (but I've never been there, so...) If possible, avoid this city, but if you want to see the falls, natually you cannot avoid seeing that place. It's a shame, really...

well:
- it's a fake town. a sort of 'las vegas of canada'
- everything there feels so plastic and use-once-then-throw-away -like
- why on earth would someone want to place 'Ripley's believe or not -museum' and some other ridiculous 'horror museums' by the niagara falls. What is the relation between them?
- It's very expensive to eat there - in every restaurant
- Lundy's lane is the most ridiculous lane I've ever seen (because of all I've mentioned above).
