I think that opinion in the United States is decidedly different from the rest of the world because we have a free press -- by free, I mean a virgorously presented right wing point of view on the air and available to all.- Ned

            Bangkok: what a ****hole
I got the runs literally minutes after stepping off the plane. Don't know what I ate... It consisted of rice and something that tasted like chicken. The locals were squatting all over the place, looking like they were in pain, so at first I though "damn the food must be really bad if the locals can't handle it either". But I found out later that squatting is just their way of resting.

And all the filthy touts, pimps and tuk-tuk drivers yelling at me in high-pitched Donald Duck voices. Hilarious people.

Worst thing is, I kind of liked the place. But 5 days was more than enough for me.

              Aberdeen.

The city is built from a grey type of granite, and it's been nicknamed 'the silver city'. Oh please, it's grey, dammit. The entire city is grey, and it's supposed to be a positive trait.

Still, I don't blame them for trying. The whole town stinks of fish and the seagulls are bigger than the people.

The quarry from which the granite came is the biggest hole in Western Europe. Says it all.

God awful, **** city. Basically, there are a few decent blocks in Center City and everything outside is the worst kind of slum I've ever seen in my life. Nothing redeeming about it, and I'm stuck living there until May.

El Paso, Texas. The whole city is brown and made of dirt. It's the ugliest place on Earth. Albequerque, New Mexico deserves an honorable mention for being totally brown and filthy also.

There ARE some positive sides, like the shore stree in Alexandria, but the whole country is sooo depressing. Like the Cairo-Alexandria Highway... Miles and miles of half built of brick or clay standing in the middle of fields. Sigh. or one market place in alexandria... OMG, it looks like some post-apocalyptic world. The walls of the 3 story buildings around it are covered with something weird.. everything is so gray....

                            damn.....

Taft in California. Looked like it could be used as one of those settings for 'British travellers turned into spare ribs by locals' drive in films.

The place at which we ate was the only place in town left open at three in the afternoon and appeared to be operated by the weird sisters from Macbeth. The menu had fried, deep fried and clot forming sections. My tuna sandwich had so much mayonnaise there were booms around it stopping it spreading further out to sea.

The people were rude and unhelpful (in contrast with elsewhere in Ca.,) and the town was uglier than a cane toad in the mud.

We had to drive through some scrubby landscape to get there, and we were mighty glad to leave. Even Fresno looked better.
