I'm having a hell of a time coming up with a plausible explanation without knowing what kind of "tests" were done before. Blood tests? Scans? It would be odd to wait a few months before something calling her back.

yeah, that's the problem... I think time has sort of solved this by now, she should have had a chance to call the doc by now... goona message her at some point, but usually she doesn't respond from work and that means it might be a few hours until I get to know...

well, what you get asking rhetorical questions here is rhetorical answers.

        I hope she's fine

What can I tell her now to calm her down? Isn't it probable that it's just the doc's way of handling such things not to mention anything precise at all in such a letter, no matter what the issue is? Is there any rational reason for her to be really frightened and shocked?
The only test I can think of that can take so long is an amniocenteisis, but that doesnt seem to be called for here. There may be some other relevant tests that require cell culture but I cant think of any routine ones.

                Hang in there, Ecthy!

My wife has been through 2 cancer positives (different types). Very scary, but both were excised and she's been OK for several years now.

If this is a positive (remembering that many scares are actually benign), she moves into a high-risk class, statistically speaking. Once (it is to be hoped) it has been successfully handled, you can look forward to an ongoing regimen of checkups. Eternal vigilance and all that. Unfortunately, the spectre never dies, and there's a certain level of ongoing stress with that.

From what's been posted here, I'd think there's a lot of reason for hope. Lots of cancer positives are routinely treatable these days. She needs to know that.

All you can do is offer moral support and positive thoughts...

well, it wasn't a real cancer positive, just one value that was slightly above normal, so there's another examination in 2 months

enough stuff to have a girl scared

                      thanks guys

Two months!! That sucks. My wife would be stressed out the entire two months if this happened to her.

Hang in there and try to keep her mind off of it.

2 months means it's nothing. if it was dangerous they'd have given a more urgent date.

it means there's nothing there, I think one value exceeded upper border by 2% or so, so it can be everything, cancer was just one option

the relevant term for that probing is smear test if that's helpful to anyone...

It shouldnt take a month to read a pap smear. Either they ****ed up, or the additional time may have been to run other tests for a previously undetected std (that can cause an abnormal smear). There's no way that should take a month though.

Abnormal pap smears, such as you've described, are relatively common. They can be caused by a lot of things besides cancer or std. As you said, they'll do another smear in a couple of months and if it's still abnormal they'll look for a cause a little harder. If not, she's OK (often the case).
