They made an album in '89 I think called "Presto" and it has 1 very good song, "Superconductor" which hasn't appeared on any of the compilations or live albums unfortunately.

Leave That Thing Alone and Face Up I believe were instrumentals from Roll the Bones. That album also has Dreamline, Bravado, and the title song with maybe 1 other good one I can't remember right now.

To give you an idea of how many songs that deserve to be on a "best of" Cd, I've burned my own compilations and I have 3 CD's with maybe 40 songs and I had to leave a few out.
I guess I'll just go for the album with the most songs I know I like. 'Leave that thing alone' is awesome, probably my favorite, so I might go for Roll the Bones so I can get the studio version.

Ah, you sound like an afficianado. Yeah, Rush became great when Peart joined as their drummer and lyricist. We had a Poly poll a couple years ago and Peart won for drummer and Geddy won for bassist. There's a couple other songs on Signals I really like - Analog Kid and Countdown, an homage to NASA. The last song on Hold Your Fire, "Tai-Shan" is good too. Peart was into trying to incorporate an "oriental" sound to some of their songs.

The lyrics to "Lock and Key" and "Prime Mover" from Hold Your Fire are excellent, and "The Body Electric" from Grace Under Pressure is very cool. Critics panned that album as being too disco-esh, but what do they know. That period, 78-89 up to and including Roll the Bones was IMO their best stuff...

Hmm... I can't remember what Leave That Thing Alone sounded like. I know there was an instrumental on Roll the Bones I really liked but it may have been "Face Up"... And come to think of it, there may have been lyrics in Face Up so maybe you're talking about the song I'm thinking of...

But Cal, if you have that song and Dreamline already on Different Stages, you might think about their earlier stuff. Signals, Moving Pictures, Power Windows, Hold Your Fire, and Grace Under Pressure would be at the top of my list with...

Well, i hold the distinct honor of being the guy who started the crowd going "HEY!" during their rendition of 2112 in Quebec's Coliseum for their Hold Your Fire Tour!

COOL!!! I may not have that specific performance but I'm sure I've got it on one of my live albums. Was that the first time a crowd did that or was it already ceremonial like the first pitch at a ballgame?

Several people at Poly have told me to check them out and I bought one of their CD's but unfortunately didn't see the resemblance. Which of their albums would you recommend?

My wife and I thought the bonus documentary was worth the price of the DVD by itself.

My three year old twins will dance to some of the songs. My daughter much more then my son...He likes the dragon alot.

                        Which one did you buy?

I would recommend 'Images and Words' or 'Scenes from a Memory'

Did you check out the mp3 I linked you to?

                          Hi Berzerker,

I think I better say thanks for introducing me to Rush two years ago. Your recommendation of Marathon and Subdivisions back in the day got me hooked.

"Rush in Rio" arrived by mail today and I'm listening to it right now. I'll post my opinions when I'm through.

On another note, why is it that no Europeans seem to know about Rush? They never tour around here it seems and I have never seen Rush on MTV or VH1 nor have I heard their songs on the radio or met another Dane who knew about them. Sometimes I feel like it's some sort of underground band.

Rush kicks serious ass, but this thread is a little late. I picked up In Rio 3 or 4 weeks ago. I saw them when they played here around Los Angeles. The By Tor cartoon was hilarious, but it was a pain to find the "easter egg" on the dvd. BTW, in neither my show or on the dvd did the play the full version of By Tor... makes me sad cuz thats the best song from Fly By Night.

Oh, and if you have 3 Different Stages, then don't bother buying the In Rio cd, unless you really like the Vapor trails album. In Rio's setlist pretty much copies 3 stages, but 3 stages has more songs. And there are no changes to the way they play the songs or the equipment they use, everything sounds the same.

And Monk, whats up dude?! You remember the lovable a charismatic Mike Jeszenka?
                              Re-elect Bush!

                                mjwhatever,

If I remember you? You bet your life. I remember you had quite a lot of emotional encounters with various people back in the golden age. I can hardly remember why but I think everybody found it quite important at the time

Anyway, it's nice to see you again. How's the last three years been to you and has maestrobto resolved his gay complex yet?
