yeah, that seems to happen a lot. one of the bestsellers in recent memory in korea was of n and skorea somehow reuniting and then invading japan. a blockbuster movie (which sucked) [2009 Lost Memories] had an alternate history where japan still occupied korea, so they overthrow the japanese and set up a nice little workers' paradise.

This whole argument between China and Taiwan is a lot funnier when you've been drinking.

to Taiwan. If Taiwan declares independence, and the PRC goes to war, I'd like to see a general US boycott of Chinese goods (that is, a voluntary one).

Of course I don't favor going to war with China over the Taiwan issue, although I'd certainly be more in favor of a war with China over Taiwan than a war in Iraq or the Balkans.

If the Taiwanese patience can just hold out, I think there will likely be a happy ending. I don't fault the Taiwanese for chafing in the meanwhile.

I must admit, Taiwan has got some balls I hope they do split off, it would just be one more entry on my list of proof that communism sucks.

                              What's the scenario?
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891
