    I don't understand exactly this referendum thing.
    You mean, so far, Taiwan wasn't considered an independent State? Does it mean it officially pretended to compete with Beijing for being the sole authority over all of China ?

      Yeah

      Taiwan is essentialy what is left of Chang Kai-Shek's Republic of China. Republic of China continues to be the official name as well.
