  • Freedom of Press in Europe?

At least I didn't see a thread on this.

So, it seems that newspapers are being censored in England, and imported newspapers (like French) are being confiscated and destroyed.

This about some scandal with the Royalty, like anyone cares

I am not exactly outraged, if the Brits don't care about their paper being censored, why should I?

But it is strange, after all freedom of the press is worshipped in the west, and we always criticize the unfree countries.

But if you look closely, those countries also have freedom of press - if you don't touch the elites.

    What happened here?

What is there to elaborate? I read in the paper that supreme court has forbidden the press to write about something, and that they confiscated the edition of Le Monde that arrived by train via the tunnel, but some were smuggled.

I ask is this different from any african dictatorship.

Well you are from the Balkans too, I guess you don't have a grasp of what free press means. Not freedom to attack minorities like they can in Greece

They confiscated a shipment of a newspaper because the prince screwed a guy?

I'm tellin' ya, each time these royal fiascoes happens, it gets stranger and stranger.

The best I can find at the moment. It says "pulped" here:

Le Monde said yesterday that all 7,000 copies of its Monday edition meant for sale in Britain had been pulped because of fears that a story on the royal scandal could lead to prosecution, reports Jon Henley.

                      Or from another site:

"European press censored in England," was the verdict of France's Le Monde in a headline on its website, after its British distributor, fearful of legal action, refused to deliver the newspaper.

The move followed some 15 European newspapers which carried reports on the alleged scandal, including France's Le Figaro, Italy's La Stampa and Spain's El Pais, being taken off British news stands on Saturday, Le Monde noted.

I don't speak French, or I could get it from Le Monde site.

the newpapers are afraid of being prosecuted. Le Monde wasn't confiscated, they pulped the 7000 papers ment for the UK themselves

I was hoping for responses from educated european masses and all I get is thanks from paiktis

Anyway, and I am not saying this for the North Sea oil, is it time to free the British people of their oppressive regime? Is it time to end this tyrany?

Well obviously. Those sympathetic aglosaxon lemmings couldn't pulp what was meant for France. So it is only for their domestic market they banned. Still funny.
