  • Why do we dream?

Why do we dream? Do dreams serve a physical purpose or are they just the mind having fun?
'There is a greater darkness than the one we fight. It is the darkness of the soul that has lost its way. The war we fight is not against powers and principalities, it is against chaos and despair. Greater than the death of flesh is the death of hope, the death of dreams. Against this peril we can never surrender. The future is all around us, waiting, in moments of transition, to be born in moments of revelation. No one knows the shape of that future or where it will take us. We know only that it is always born in pain.'"

Cuz sleeping would be Focking boring.

Plus, your brain has to find something to do.

That's what I am thinking. The brain works all during the day, so maybe dreaming is the brain's way of taking a vacation!

Actually the brain works during sleep as well. It has some more peaceful times, but at times, during dreams, the mind is working full throttle.

"Their function is unknown, but Sigmund Freud saw them as wish fulfillment (nightmares being failed dreams prompted by fears of repressed impulses). If a high level of acetylcholine is present, dreams occur too early in sleep, causing wakefulness, confusion and depression, which suggests a form of memory search is involved.....For the purposes of (allegedly) fortelling the future, dreams fell into disrepute in the scientific atmosphere of the 18th centruy." When I worked nights I learned that sleep deprevation is caused by not reaching the REM/Dreaming stage of sleep. Thus, I eventually was able to sleep 4 hours a day and be fully revitalized because I would dream, the times when I wouldn't dream I would be exhausted.

Of course this has nothing to do with WHY we actually have dreams instead of some other point we need to reach to get a good night/day sleep.

Dreams are your brain's way of telling you that you are merely a player in a play, and the director is an evil omnipotent God with a sick sense of humor.

dreaming is the defragmentation of the soul.

Dreaming sucks for the pre-fragged spawn-killed - it's more like an ex post facto memo.
