Yes, I wouldn't like to be The Plank at the moment, carrying the entire squad.

Apart from, believe it or not, Manny Edmonds' younger brother, who is a young, very talented hooker.
How unusual – it’s rare for a younger sibling to pick a radically different position as most seem driven to prove they were the better of the two?

Still as you point out without Locks and props coming through it does not look good. Smith was already hovering when Wilson vacated the spot wasn’t he? It’s the seemingly endless ready made replacement pool that has kept the Wallabies where they are – so if they are drying up…

Mind you having said all that Lyons seems to be reaching the potential you thought he had?

As Jason Little said on TV tonight, the ABs are always involved in an upset somewhere or other during a RWC.
I was hoping they were saving a real mare of a performance for if we met them in the final myself.

Oh, and I saw O'Driscoll interviewed tonight. Seems like a very pleasant, affable chap.
To be sure, to be sure.

As I pointed out after the match, and as Tamerlin noticed only after I'd pointed it out, their opposition was pathetic. By my count, we lost six against our throw. Les Grenouilles won't.
Shouldn’t is a safer word than won’t there?

He's a different build from Manny. A lot more solid. He's played hooker, flanker, winger, you name it, for his club. Unfortunately, he might be another player who slips through the Waratahs' fingers because they're overlooking him.

Yes, George got his start on the 2000 NH tour. I think Wilson retired after the SH 2000 season.

Mind you having said all that Lyons seems to be reaching the potential you thought he had?
Yes, he is. Only 23 or 24 and still learning. And probably still growing. I think what he has to learn most of all is concentration. He's big, strong, fast and skilled enough to dominate matches. Trouble is, he's a bone fide country boy from the farming backblocks and they take some motivating.

To be fair, too, there's David Croft coming along, and Eales' protege, Daniel Heenan. They went to Japan with the A team and are in the shadow squad. I just wish everyone had bitten the bullet earlier in the year, accepted that this team was past its use-by-date, and used this season and this tournament to blood people. Fat chance!

I was hoping they were saving a real mare of a performance for if we met them in the final myself.
I have an awful feeling in my bones - awful, because I backed the bastards - that they are going to stumble before the final. I would bet my entire Civ Gold fortune - such as it is - that Umaga won't appear again in the tournament, and they really missed his presence and strong defence last weekend. The Welsh wouldn't have run around or through him.

Shouldn’t is a safer word than won’t there?
Mmmm. I haven't seen the French as disciplined as they've been in this tournament. We shall see.

I think Umaga will be given a run against Aussie. He's put his heart and sole into his recovery and has said during numerous interviews that he wants to repay the faith that Mitchell has placed in him. I'm fairly sure that if there wasn't a good chance he'd heal in time then he'd have been sent home. If he's fit he'll be played, no doubt about it. He's been in full contact training this week incidentally.

And tell your bones to stop feeling awful. Mauger has admitted to feeling a bit ‘rusty’, and seems confident that the midfield will improve. He said that this week he feels much sharper with better timing, and the whole team has been working hard on their defence. When you play the expansive style we’ve adopted, naturally gaps open up, it’s a high risk style. But it means we get tries, and our clean sweep of the tri nations showed it can work…

                Reds or Brumbies?

Almost. He came to Harlequins, got given the captaincy then hardly played for two seasons as the physical side of English rugby caught him at the wrong end of his career and he was consequently always injured.

Trouble is, he's a bone fide country boy from the farming backblocks and they take some motivating.
A bit like our Cornishman Phil Vickery then – and he could move seamlessly to play for Gloucester therefore.

I just wish everyone had bitten the bullet earlier in the year, accepted that this team was past its use-by-date, and used this season and this tournament to blood people. Fat chance!
Not the Eddie way is it?

Did you notice Eddie’s latest digs – at McGeechan? Apparently Geeks teams play last resort rugby because that’s all they are capable of.

Hmm lets compare international records – Geeks a grand slam winning coach with Scotland and a three times Lions head coach winning two of those series for the British Isles (the only lost series being NZ). And Eddie’s record? A world cup win in waiting and a tri-nations on points difference?

I have an awful feeling in my bones - awful, because I backed the bastards - that they are going to stumble before the final.
                Heresy surely?

Mmmm. I haven't seen the French as disciplined as they've been in this tournament. We shall see.
The question is how thick is that veneer of discipline?
What on earth on you talking about you two – something about farts in helmets?

Nice picture but... not at all, this is a little collection of colloquialisms and slang words for Finbar while he is waiting for his petit ophrys.

I haven't seen the Wales/NZ game yet, but I wanted to catch up with you guys so I read your posts anyway.

SA looked very impressive against Samoa, so naturally the clash with NZ will be a cracker. I think they have a decent chance of knocking us out actually. Of course I don't want that to happen, but it's certainly on the cards.

I am so glad that England jersey I bought isn't tight-fitting like the ones the players wear. It probably would have been if I hadn't got the largest size. For the players it probably helps them escape the jersey-grabbing mitts of the opposition, but they do look a bit gay don't you think?

Has anyone else noticed that the outfits of the people who sing the national anthem for NZ have seven-pointed stars on them instead of five?

Sorry, but there's nothing gayer than Michalak in a blue and white rugby leotard.

BTW what do you think of the french shorts changing from white to blue? It just doesn't seem right to me.

This guy must have perfected this pose from his 80s glam metal days...

I must admit he has a strange lip's pinching...

But as far as I am concerned I would not tell him face to face...

These shorts are a lesser evil when you compare them with those tight shirts, the later are on par with those ridiculous operatic anthems: ridiculous.
