Macy's? we have that where I live
NYC public library? We have libraries where I live as well. I have seen and even read books
Nightlife? Overrated at best. We have plenty of nightclubs where I live. Maybe if they had something like Studio 54 used to be- but I would never be able to get into a place like that

Walk every day until your feet hurt, then rest on the subway and walk again.
Places to walk through:
- Brooklyn Bridge (a quick crossing, but well worth it - perhaps the skyline is less impressive now)
- Alphabet City: Check out Ave A, near Tompkins Sq Park.
- Museums: Guggenheim (for the building if nothing else), The Met (for Medieval armor and the building), PS1 (in Long Island City) if there is an event on at the time, it draws a great crowd.
- Soho, Chinatown, Little Italy, Greenwich Village, etc; Maybe find some walks in your guidebook.
- Upper East: 5th, Park and/or Madison from low 80's down - this is for pampered-people-spotting, which becomes dull soon, so you just head to Central Park to recover.
- Midtown (e.g Park Ave, heading North from Grand Central) - the scale here is stunning.
For eating suggestions, don't ask us, ask Zagats.

...and if you want to see Times Square for the sake of ticking that off, just hit and run. If you must take a walk there, head for Rockefeller Center to check out the ice rink area and the Met Museum Shop (for excellent selection of gifts, etc)."I'm so happy I could go and drive a car crash!"
