Alien was scary, but not as much as Aliens. I guess the difference is that in the first the crew were just paid to scavenge, not fight aliens. In the sequel the crew was trained to fight the bugs and they were all c@cky. I'll agree that the first was meant to be more suspenseful and play on the audience's nerves in a different, more horrorful way. I guess the action in the sequel made it a better movie IMO. The scene in Aliens where they have the bugs approaching on their little detection monitors and they just keep coming but don't appear because they're on a different level so they pop the roof and look above and there they are got me jumping, hehe. Yikes...

And it had one of the best lines I've ever heard in a horror movie. Bill Paxton (I think) is whining after the rescue shuttle crashes and they're discussing how long it will be before another ship is sent - 17 DAYS! Paxton has a fit and Ripley says to him "this little girl has survived here much longer without any military training", and Paxton whines "why don't you put her in charge".

    Game over, GAME OVER MAN!

Oh yeah, Punpkinhead was a good horror movie. Scream was good too...

You got to be kidding me. That was old when it was done in the '40s with Ten Little Indians.

Pitch Black was good too, but kind of an Aliens rip-off.

Another great line from Aliens: Vasquez, the latina buff chick, is doing pull-ups and Bill Paxton asks here if anyone ever mistook her for a man. Vasquez says no, has anyone ever mistaken you for a man?

The Exorcist, The Shining and Alien have been the only three movies to scare the everliving crap out of me when I first watched them.

As far as horror series go, Hellraiser wins hands down if only because the first two were just too damn good.

Yeah, but Hellraiser 3 and 4 were CRAP with a capital "CRAP".

Very true. That series needs Clive Barker back to make it worthwhile again.

I don't know if it needs the creator's hand to revive it or if it should just be allowed to fade into obscurity. He's written so many other good novels; the Hellraiser series was entirely based on a short story. So was Candyman, which was sequeled ad nauseum.

The Exorcist is my personal favorite. A great book and movie with a lot of underlying symbolism.

The first Halloween was great too.

Alien is indeed a horror movie, no doubt about that. And yes, it is VERY scary.

But the scarriest movie I've ever seen is this movie that is filmed by a videocamera, and is about a bunch of people attacked by aliens. I think it was made after "The Blair Witch Project". It had a very real feel to in and it indeed was horrifying. in a good way.
