I suspect U of Chicago students are more "apathetic" because they aren't stranded in a small college town, like say Carbondale Illinois, where they are more likely to get sucked into the whole right/left bull****.
well, not quite. uchicago is an ivory tower school: this explains why we have no engineering, no architecture, why our csci dept is research-oriented, and while our music theory is spectacular, we have to hire a conductor from somewhere else to do our music performances.
so, what it boils down to, is that most students at uchicago are too smart to get sucked into the whole right/left bull****, because they can see right through the windbag arguments from both sides.
or, it's that our brains are too fried to care since we only have one day off a quarter.
however, there are still enough students who do fall for the stupid arguments. like blood for oil!B♭3

Fabulous:
yeah I go to Temple U in Philly, whose most famous alumni is Bill Cosby.
as for political discussions in class so far, they largely follow the same route they did in high school with me alone against the vocal people and the people who never say anything later telling me they agree with me and being glad there's another opinion out there besides the liberal one. and the strange thing, it's always minorities who are on my side quietly.
as for teachers... they are much more liberal in college than in high school. at my high school, there were several outwardly Republican teachers and only really one outwardly liberal one. it was interesting how none of the physical ed teachers (who included some of the few non-asian minority teachers) were in favour of sex education. college professors though continue putting their liberal bull into their lessons."Flutie was better than Kelly, Elway, Esiason and Cunningham." - Ben Kenobi
"I have nothing against Wilson, but he's nowhere near the same calibre of QB as Flutie. Flutie threw for 5k+ yards in the CFL." -Ben Kenobi

I'm from MA...I had mostly liberal teachers in high school (with one libertarian), so this new atmosphere is shocking to me
Usually at my school, its the conservatives who speak up most, with me being in the minority...
and actually, its the minorities who are usually on my side"I predict your ignore will rival Ben's" - Ecofarm

What a lame troll.
*wonders if I should tell Mr. Fun that Zkirbbler is a liberal and furthermore, a union president*
