Just watched a wonderful program on the history channel, about a Nazi plan to hit new york back in 1944, with a dirty bomb, launched from Germany itself.
It makes sense that such a plan would have been conceived, but id never realised they actually went as far as they did, in trying to do it, and with a dirty bomb also.
Allied bombing put an end to the program, good job too. What do you think would have happened had Germany managed to hit New York with a Radioactive bomb ??
This episode examines a diabolical plan devised to strike back at the United States during World War II.
Aviation historian David Myhra has been investigating secret German aircraft projects for more than 20 years. He's uncovered evidence of this startling plan. Through vivid 3D animation, photos, and re-creations, these unusual and top secret projects are finally revealed. We travel to Germany and uncover the secret labs and factories where the "Amerika Bombers" were being designed, tested and constructed.
In late 1944, the Allies were about to deliver a devastating defeat to Nazi Germany. Incessant air strikes were leveling German cities one by one. It was a desperate situation for Germany. Hitler was dedicated to using any means necessary to avoid an unconditional surrender. Against this bacdrop, top Nazi brass hatch a plan that would usher in the age of global terrorism: the "Amerika Bomber": project. the secret plan would have included Hitler's so-called wonder weapons. But did the Germans have a radioactive bomb that could contaminate and kill thousands? We'll uncover the evidence.
Three aerospace designers, Wernher von Braun, Eugen Sanger, and Reimar Horton each had a different solution to the problem of reaching new York to deliver this radioactive bomb. In a race against each other, time, and devastating setbacks, new technology would emerge that would eventually change the world.
The Nazis never did bomb new York City, but the plan to do so was very real. This program will help reveal this little-known, but very important part of history.
