It was. He said, in an interview, that he could build the tallest tower in the world, and someone would just come along and build a taller one. He said he wanted to make the height have a specific meaning, so that if someone did that, it wouldn't matter so much. Liebeskind is big on the almost spiritual aspect of the tower. Supposidly on 9/11, the sunlight will come through the corridor between the towers between the exact times the planes hit.
There have been many conspiracy theories about the height, from Christian and Jewish conspiracies, to his own name. In reality, the height was chosen because of Independance Day. Apt for something called the Freedom Tower, and a nice touch IMHO.Smile
